start of a .22 addiction

This weekend I just had to finally buy the henry h001 that I have been wanting, and my wife seems interested in shooting, and the s&w 22a was on sale at cabelas for $169, so I just could not pass that up, then I had to buy three bricks of ammo, and will go back for a fourth this weekend (blazers) before heading to the range to test them out.

The other two are a ruger single six 5.5" in stainless (1976) I bought for $200 with only the LR cylinder, and a remington 550 dating to the early 50's I received from my dad. Unfortunatly I can not shoot that one yet, I need a new tube magazine first.

I have only had my gun permit for about six months, and can not help but keep an eye out for the next good deal. Next ones I hope to purchase, taurus 94 snubby, and a bolt action rifle. Hope to buy those used. Maybe a rough rider or pt22 also :rolleyes:

Now if I lived outside the cities and could go shooting in my backyard, I would be in REAL trouble!

Isn't that .22A a hoot? I love mine to death. I've had it less than a year, and I'm already on my 2nd little plastic thing. I'll have to order more.

Where do you shoot up there? I live by Northfield and shoot at the Faribault Rifle and Pistol Range.
 
The closest is Bills in robbinsdale, but for me and my wife to shoot there cost $30:what:

So.... I go to Burnsville pistol/rifle range, if I buy a shot card, it only cost $10 for both my wife, myself and two firearms :D
 
Started out with .22's

about 35+ years ago, bought a very good Browning and still have it. Now many rounds later and I am at 2 gun safes:D and a room dedicated to reloading:evil: with 4 pro gun kids all of us life NRA and all of us (except the youngest, with 1 year to go before) wife included are CCW, ain't life grand:D :D

I do. I have burned a brick in around two and a half hours. Using a bolt action rifle with a single 10 round detachable magazine.

You need a tricked out 10/22. Unless you get one, you ain't one of the cool kids.

You still need a pump .22, and a couple of 10/22's set up with the "Gatling Gun" kit (sorry, its not actually a gatling gun), and a CZ-452, and one or several of the autoloading .22 pistols...

And then we can talk about suppressors...

You are going to need to stock up on Ramen noodles.:p
 
Until you walk into your vault and discover that you have acquired 4 Ruger 10/22's and 14 Remington Nylon guns, along with 18 or 19 OTHER .22 caliber guns, then NO, you are NOT properly addicted! LOL
 
I love shooting .22, it's my favorite overall shooting discipline. Especially in a rifle.

My stable is modest, but I'm proud of it. I'm sure I'll add a thing or two later, but there's no rush. I *do* need a revolver... wish more manufacturers were still in the game.


One day I hope to buy a plot of land in the country and put a modest dwelling of some sort on it... pretty much for the express purpose of being able to "shoot in the backyard" as has been described. And I'm sure 95% of it would be .22.
 
A suggestion,
Stop now and take up drinking, it will be cheaper in the long run.

I have been eyeing a Walther GSP Match pistol for some time.
The price, a cool twenty two hundred bucks with accessories,,,,,,,,,,
 
If you are going to get addicted to guns, there is no cheaper way to go than .22. I have way more .22s than I ever have time to shoot, but for some reason I keep buying them.
 
I think you can still shoot the remington. You just have to load it 1 round at a time :).
 
Well you need to add one of the ruger .22LR auto pistols to your arsenal. The Ruger MK I or II hell even a MK III.

Actually I tried to buy a stainless one at a gun show, but my dad insisted I wait since I will inherit his :)

I plan on getting a 10/22 eventually, and I want to add one of those beautiful blue laminated stocks.

I am still on the lookout for a bolt action (maybe savage?), dual action revolver (taurus 94), heritage rough rider, taurus tracker, marlin 39a, marlin model 60, and any other .22 that is under $300 :rolleyes:
 
Ah, just went with the wife to the range today. It was a pleasure, got to shoot the henry, s&w 22a, ruger single six, and another shooter offered to let us try his browning buckmark. Squeeze off 600 rounds between those four guns, and only had four ftf and one stovepipe.

All were fun, and now that I tried the buckmark, I gotta have one! :p The wife liked that one the best. It was much easier to rack the slide for her, easier to realise the magazine, and the trigger was smooth.

Can anyone suggest a good cheap red dot for the 22a? I will do a search, but your advice would be great too!

One of each sounds good to me. At some point, you will want something "more", take a look at the new Weatherby Mark XXII rifle. The old ones are great too; they are semi-auto full sized 22 rifles.
 
You mentioned a Savage. I picked one up last week (Mark 2)and it is my current favorite gun to shoot. Only a coincidence that it is the newest.;)

I have two .22 rifles now, one bolt and one semi-auto. Also have the requisite .22 SAS.

Second on the current wish list is a SAS in stainless with a barrel less than 6 inches.

Am sorely lacking on the semi auto pistol though, hmmm......
 
I'm looking at a .22 conversion for my Glock 23. I can't wait to get it. Then comes the barrel threading, then the "can"...

.22's

Yep, .22's are fun. I own a 22A and a Colt .22 semi-auto. The 22A was mine untill I put a Simmons model 51112 red dot on it. My wife now claims it as hers. Can't remember how much I gave for the Simmons, but it was reasonable, probably $50-$75. On the Colt I have a SP-1 Millett red dot. It costs me around $80. We sure have a blast with those two pistols.
I also have a 10-22 of course. A Remington Speedmaster and Marlin 99-M1.
What I really want now is a Ruger Single Six stainless and maybe a Winchester .22 of some kind. :D
Oh, and a lever action....I almost forgot about a lever action!
 
Yes, it is a fun addiction! And thankfully, the wife is interested too! :cool:

I just picked up a bsa red dot for the 22a, and am watching a savage mark II at a pawnshop right now, might just grab it.

Still need to keep an eye out for more. I hope to someday get a cz kadet to practice with for my cz75 compact.

So many choices, not enough money. :eek:

I am so glad you said the mark II is your favorite, is yours an accu-trigger? The one I am thinking about is not unfortunately:(

I recently got back into firearms after a 30 year hiatus... even though I still have my Ruger Single six that I bought in 1967. I have my old shotgun, an old 22 semi-auto rifle, and a couple of black powder Hawken Rifles (I am embarrassed to say, I have never shot). I developed a severe need for a 1911 Colt 45 ACP WW1 remake. Bought that. My 14 year old daughter saw it and said "hey Dad... can I learn to shoot some guns?"
So, I bought a Ruger Mk111, an OLD Bearcat, and a vintage Woodsman. We are headed out to the range as soon as soccer lets up. What a pleasure! To get back into shooting with the help of .22's and my Daughter.
My first shot from a gun was from an old .22 short rolling block single shot rifle that my Grandfather bought for my father in 1924. It had been shot uncleaned so much that you had to dig each spent cartridge out with a knife... but I loved it. Dad also has a .22 SPECIAL pump (when was the last time you saw on of those?).
.22's are an incredible cartridge... you can blast away all day without notice... but it is as serious as any round out there. I have 1200 rounds that are 30 years old... need to buy some more. But... I have 50 rounds of .45ACP also. Wheee!
