Though I've owned several guns, both long and handguns, the SR9c I purchased yesterday is the first NIB acquisition.

Nothing in the manual says anything about cleaning and lubing before use, or break-in procedures, if necessary.

Before I pull the trigger the first time on a new gun, if there anything else I need to know?

BTW... I bought a bunch of Sellier & Bellot 115g FMJs for practice and Speer Gold Dot 124g for SD.
 
With any new firearm (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc.), I always field strip and remove any factory grease/lube meant for storage (they often use the cheapest lube available) and give a thorough cleaning with Hoppes #9 and lube with BreakFree CLP while giving a close inspection for any factory defects/concerns and making myself familiar with the internals.

After reassembly, I function check fully before range testing the firearm.
 
I always clean my new guns before shooting. Despite it being fired at the factory, you never know if there might be some machining detritus in there. Word on the boards is that Ruger slathers on the packing grease pretty heavy and you need to clean them before you shoot.
 
Thanks! All my cleaning supplies are at my other domicile, so I'll get to the shop this afternoon.

Anxious to put some rounds through this critter!
 
New Ruger pistols seem to be loaded with factory gunk....the LC9 and SR9c I bought NIB recently both got stripped down and sprayed out thoroughly with Gun Scrubber and re-lubed before either ever shot a round. Both also had perfect function.
 
Do not dry fire the SR9/SR9c unless you have removed the magazine safety first or have a snap cap loaded in it, unless you like gritty triggers.
 
As with any new machine, there is always a break in period. Some are longer, or shorter than others is all. I have about 500+- rounds of ball ammo through my SR9 full size and am just about comfortable enough with it's performance so I can start using HP ammo.

As far as first field strip or cleaning goes, at least do a thorough field field strip and oiling on it before firing live rounds. Mine had all kind of gunk and trash in/on it when I first broke it down.

Enjoy it, I know I do mine.
