Bloomberg wants product banned

During a news conference on gun control, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg lambasted the Chippewa Valley's Lauer Custom Weaponry for selling a product designed to make real guns look like toys. That was news to owner Steve Lauer. Lauer says he first heard about it when a New York City reporter called him.
Lauer says Dura Coat is a corrosion-proof product used by the military and law enforcement as a way to protect weapons. It was never intended to make guns look more attractive to children.
It does come in bright colors but for what Lauer calls safety reasons. He says bright yellow for example is used by search and rescue so they can find a weapon in low light conditions if it happens to drop.
Lauer says he does appreciate all the media attention the mayor's tirade has brought him. His Dura Coat sales doubled for two days after the media reports.
As for his New York business, Lauer says he has records of only one sale to someone who uses it to protect bicycles. There are two other orders which Lauer presumes are from the aide who purchased the product for the mayor's news conference.
