I saw another post of someone's daughter shooting full-auto in Montana, do you need any special permit for that? Are there other states that permit full-auto?

That's a pretty interesting list, thanks for the link.

I have a suppressor, and am looking to buy an automatic, and am glad to see that there are few states on my "possible" list that would restrict either. The sole troubling cases are WA (bad for both) and Vermont (no suppressors).

The others are pretty much your usual strict states (NY, NJ, IL) , except that MI and MN are slightly problematic.

not sure when the list was updated, but the info for Michigan is wrong.

Mi now allows MG. Working on getting suppressors. Working on the suppressors, just waiting on the AG to make a ruleing on it.

So all I would have to do to get a MG in Georgia is get the sheriff to sign a little piece of paperwork and do a background check? Then I could go out and buy one.

There is no legal way for a civilian to own a suppressor in MO. If you're a registered class 3 manufacturer, you can build one for yourself, but you could only sell it to law enforcement.

We can own machine guns, short barreled rifles and shotguns, AOW's, DD's, et al, but no suppressors. That's one we really need to work on.

It's a little more complicated than that.
Find a gun you want, that is transferrable.
Pay for it.
Fill out a Form 4 and submit it along with you fingerprints, photo, CLEO signature and a money order for $200.00 to the ATF
Wait...
wait some more....
Eventually you'll pass the background check. (presumably)
Then your dealer will call you and you can go get your $3500-$35000 noise maker.
The upshot is, it should be worth about 10% more per year from then on.

There are a few things that could cause the above to vary slightly. If you're buying an auto from out of state, for instance, you'll probably pay 2 transfer taxes at $200 each. One from the dealer in the other state to the dealer in yours, then one from him to you.

Getting a trust or corp. will eleviate some things like CLEO sign off and fingerprints, photos ... but there's no very easy (or cheap) way to do it.

EDIT: looking into this issue.

Out of state transfers require two stamps/Form 4. One from OOS owner to your Class III/II dealer, then one from your Class III to you. Current waiting periods are running 27-32 days per form.

Oh yeah, don't expect your full auto to appreciate 10% per year. So far, mine have done MUCH better.

Ie. Ruger AC 556. Paid $3500 two years ago. Turned down $6700 this year. The AC 556 is the only current MG that the factory will service. I had a problem with mine; threw it in a box, insured it and sent it to Ruger - no paperwork!! They returned it within two weeks.

Here's one more tidbit. You do not have to carry your Form 4 with you when you take your MG out for a run. However, I had my Form 4 shrunk and laminated and threw it in the MG case. So far no one has ever asked to see it. All they want to do is shoot the gun.

BTW: I may know of an AC556 that MIGHT be coming up for sale. Not cheap - none are!

Manufacturers are Class II, Class III is a dealer of NFA firearms.. Class I, II and III are actually ocupational codes within the Tax code and have nothing to do with the guns themselves.(Class I, II and III are sometimes called "SOT") The Weapons are called NFA's.

Connecticut allows full autos as long as they are not select fire weapons.

Vermont allows full auto, as does New Hampshire.

Even Mass. allows full auto with a license.

O.K. So in Connecticut I can own a M1919A4, but not a selct-fire M-16. And in Arizona, I can own a select-fire M-16, but not bottle rockets. Guess that just goes along with here in South Carolina I can concealeed carry, but not open carry. No wonder my poor little head hurts.

Oregon is pretty cool with just about anything, including auto knives...Fireworks,they look the other way, unless you start a fire with them...

Yup! And to make things available to us, the big time Class 3 dealers have developed good, in some instances non-permenant or damaging means of making the weapons only capable of FA or burst fire.

And I forgot to mention, they have to be registered annually with the State Police.

I was going to say the same thing. We can also have AOWs, such as forward pistol grips on handguns and AOW shotguns, like the serbu super shorty.

I wasn't aware full auto weapons existed back in the 1700's.

Please tell me you're not trying to use the old "the founding fathers couldn't imagine the state of weaponry of the modern age".

They also couldn't imagine a printing press that pumped out 1000 newspapers in an hour, or the internet. I certainly don't need gov't permission to have a computer and internet access, with which I can harm other people or communicate a bomb threat.

On that link that DoubleTapDrew posted, New York lists NO to everything but AOW. AOW is listed as a basic Yes, but class 3 in a no. Now if we're not talking something like an SBS,.. what exactly is an AOW that would be NY legal ? Maybe like a pen-gun or something ?

AOW shotguns like the Serbu Super Shorty? Factory pistol grip (no stock) registered as a pistol so it doesn't fall under SBS regs.
