Found some 7.65x51 ammo at my LGS. I was glad to get them. However in my haste I didn’t realize they were steel jacket. Never seen these before.
Are these ok in my DPMS Oracle?

Thanks for the reply

Sorry for the typo

If you are talking about a Bi metal bullet they will wear your barrel a little more than normal copper jacket rounds.
It's best to have a chrome lined barrel to shoot these rounds.

Big picture - they're fine to use, even in your most expensive soft - steeled button - cut boutique precision rifle barrels.

Even when you burn through one rifle barrel a month (or more), you probably won't notice any degradation in "accuracy" (and when you're at that level of use, you don't really care).

Tula ammunition may be underloaded for some, and I'm not really sure if steel bounces back faster or slower (all speculation) - there may be cycling and extraction issues. They're okay in "battle rifles" such as FAL and G3 derivatives. AR-10 and M-14 derivatives, not sure - with this trend towards "tight, accurized guns."

How much of this stuff have you got? A box? A case? No problem. A pallet? Probably save enough money to buy a new barrel.
Just one box so far. If I can get more at a decent price I probably will. Seems to be safe for my barrel.

I clicked on this thread cause I saw a round that I was not familiar with LOL. I have shot a bunch of this in the past in my 308 rifles with no problems detected other than it was not particularly accurate in either of them. About as good as WWB is IIRC.

I'm not sure about current production, but 30 years ago Norma used to load steel jacketed soft points that were at least as accurate as any other factory hunting load around.

The Swiss used steel jackets for their 7.5x55 GP-11 ammunition and it's still considered to be some of the most accurate general issue military service ammunition ever made.

The Swiss didn't use chrome lined barrels in their rifles either, so take from this information what you will.

Actually, a high percentage of WW2 and Korean War era .30-06 M2 Ball and M2 AP is steel jacketed.

Most people just never noticed because the US clad the steel with gilding metal so it looks the same as copper jacketed bullets.

To me if it shoots safely, is somewhat accurate, and priced accordingly why not get a pile. Price on everything is only going to go up over time. Doubt most would shoot enough to detect a barrel wear difference anyway. Just sayi'n.

All US surplus M80 ball I've ever seen is steel/bimetal jacketed FYI. shoot it (assuming your range/club allows magnetic jacketed bullets... mine doesn't).

Be careful many range don't allow metal/jacketed bullets, if you are talking about cases I wouldn't unless you have a good surplus of extractors.
