Stepped 9MM cases.

Well, ray15 was addressing your first post where the picture is of once fired factory cases. I'm only questioning the following statements:
1. That ammo was not 9mm Luger per SAAMI/C.I.P. standards - false.
2. That ammo was loaded overpressured by the manufacturer because it has a stepped case (the flat primers) - again, false.

Problems with handloading the stepped cases are a whole different issue.

P.S. I'm not here to pick up fights, or mock on fellow members, but to search for facts. Only facts are of interest to me. Everything else that we assume without a proof falls in the "urban myth" category, which I hate with passion. Because soon or later some poor soul comes to me, wastes my beer time and irritates me repeating those same myths. And I hate it when they spoil my beer tasting... :)

On another note I would like to know if anyone has ever seen a part of that step or ring come out of the case upon discharge. Or to put it another way, have you ever picked up one of those brass cases and found a part of the step missing?

I don't think that could happen. The brass is all one piece and the step is just a thicker portion.
As others have mentioned they sometimes separate at the top of the step.
Here is one

Not one of mine because I don’t reload them but like I said before, that’s the notch effect, in action.

There is a reason why most cases don’t drastically change wall thickness and it’s to reduce this effect.
