Can that :cuss: key-lock on the Steyr M-series be removed by the factory?

If not, is there anyone that someone knows of who does an after-market removal job on the :cuss: key-lock?

Is it even possible to safely remove it?

??

"Can that ********* key-lock on the Steyr M-series be removed by the factory?"

I don't understand what you want to do with it?
Is it locked down to where you can't access it?
Lost the keys?

I have an M9 but I'm not getting what you are looking for.

Just like the ILS lock on my USP Compact, I made sure my M40 and my M9 were unlocked when I took them out of the box and I haven't touched the key(s) since...

I don't see a need to remove the component, just make sure that it isn't locked and move on with the fun part of shooting...

I've never locked my M40 either.

The key is on my key-chain ... kinda handy for cleaning under your fingernail with :D

Only problem with completely removing the lock is that you have to push in on the lock to release the take-down lever.

The mechanism is unobtrusive and cannot "accidentally" lock the gun or fail and render the gun inoperable so I wouldn't worry about it.

I had considered using the Steyr as a duty weapon, but if that key-lock is a permanent feature I'll have to make do with something else.

LawDog,
It is part of the takedown assembly, but there is really no way that it can get locked by itself. No need to pass on an otherwise excellent weapon for that reason, IMO.

Even HK is putting them on their guns now...

Lawdog, I am failing to find why you have a problem with the key lock...if you dont want to use it, then dont....The gun will not lock itself....Just forget it is there...but that lock NEEDS to be there for the purpose of takedown...the button needs to be pushed in with the finger to rotate the takedown lever...but that will not 'lock" the gun...

THE only way to lock the gun is with the KEY, and you have to insert the key, depressing the lock about 1/4 inch, and then turn it 90 degrees...definitely not something that happens by accident.

Alternative to the key lock

Here's an alternative to you dilema,

If the thought of that lock is preventing you from getting sleep at night, you can just put a few small dabs of epoxy in the holes where the key goes.

No holes, keys won't fit in it anymore, no lock then. It would just be a button for the takedown mechanism.

I know thats sick, but it's the easiest fix I could come up with.
