Anyone have one of these new Gen 4 versions? Nothing very recent in THR search engine.

Also looking at the S9-A1.

As I understand the latest revision with a roll pin under the rear sight makes for a smoother trigger by stabilizing a roller bearing in the striker assembly or something. This is the trigger everyone is talking about. I don't own one but will look closely at the M9-A1. Makes most sense.

I have two gen four Steyrs, an S9-A1 and M40-A1. They are very good handguns. High quality and great shooters.
The S9 is my carry gun most of the time. I like the trapezoid sights but I put night sights on all my carry guns including the S9.
The 10 round mags bug me a little, they could be made to hold 12 or 13 rounds. I always carry at least one spare 17 round M9 mag.

Here is my L9 A1...the dealer ordered the wrong one but I brought it home anyway. Haven't shot it yet, just added some grip tape to the sides. It sure feels great in the hand and the trigger is nice.

I have an early model M40 (with the wacky safety located in the trigger guard). I do enjoy it, but I think I'd like the newer offerings better. It's on my list.

I've had a long standing interest in these guns, but I've never found one to handle. The bore axis looks really low, and like it's an easy shooting gun.

Like you I have an early Steyr though mine is the M9 version. Decent enough gun with some interesting features, like the trapezoidal sights and the trigger guard safety), and a grip frame that feels extremely comfortable in my hand. If I were to get another Steyr it would probably be the smaller S9-A1 version.

^^^the S9A1 is next on my list

I plan on going to the range today for some more load testing after I did some sight adjustment. I will post results if I am able. First opinions are very favorable. Soft shooting with +P. Likes the heavier 147 loads. Very sturdy built and serious duty weapon.

Think I read somewhere that the original design called for it to be made for the .40 S&W (M40), and then later adapted for the 9mm. cartridge (M9). Have found my M9 also prefers heavier loads though it functions just fine with anything I run through it.

That will motivate me...

S40 came today, ran to the range and put 40 rounds thru it. I really like the size. The trigger is pretty good ( a little creepy when you pull it slowly) sights are really easy to get a flash sight picture, a little vague for elevation but had no problem keeping them in the 9 ring of a B27 @ 25 yards.

I just got my L9 A1and put the first few rounds into the range. I love the egos, the trigger isn't bad at all, but I am struggling with the sights, especially if they are in a shadow. I need to do more shooting to really get to know the pistol better. I did notice it shoots all over the place with mild handholds and settles right down with hotter ammunition, but again I need more time to test.

Note on the rebate, make sure you get the current rebate form, copy attached here. They had one earlier this year. The form I got can be filled out electronically so I scanned the receipt and mailed them to Steyr.

I think Steyr recommends a 200 rd break-in. I've put about 70 rds through mine now with a single fail to extract with WWB 115 gr when shot from a rest. Will continue to run it with all brands and with all weights including the 147s. It also seems to run well with Federal 115 +P+. Most all accounts I've read say the occasional ejection/extraction issues go away after the break-in period.

I should have said the L9 A1 function was 100%. I cannot be sure about how many rounds went downrange, but at least one box of fifty and several 17 round magazines of my hand loaded 9mm ammo.

Steyr is prronounced "Sch-TAAAAHHHH" with extra emphasis on the "TAAAAAHHHH". It is not pronounced "steer" or "stir" as some say it in this country.

They are very nice pistols and are very, very intriguing. Nutnfancy has a recent video review on them and he likes them a lot.

Seems like good tool. Magazines are very expensive and aftermarket stuff like holsters difficult to find, therefore, I would never consider one. Resale value will be low because few are familiar with the weapon. Just like minty Slovak GP pistols that sell used here for $300 or little more. The positives are ergonomic grip futuristic look and extreme ugglines which reminds me of Klingon weapons from Star Trek series.
