Recently acquired an STI Elektra in black. Don't mind the pearlescent grips, but really prefer something in wood. Wasn't finding anything I liked. Then thought it might be nice to find a set of grips off an STI Escort. Couldn't find any. I'm lucky to live about a mile from STI. So I dropped by on the off chance they might have an old set of Escort grips laying around they'd sell me ( they no longer make the Escort or the Elektra ). So a really nice guy greets me ( I'm pissed at myself for not catching his name ), and says he'll go across the street to the other building to see what he might find. About 15 minutes later he returns with three sets of grips. Another set of black pearlescent like the ones already on my pistol ( after a side by side, these have a better pattern than the ones I already have ), a set of red pearlescent ( thought these might look good on the black frame ), and the wood Escort grips I was really looking for. So I ask how much for each pair, and he says no charge, they're yours. I've read a lot of positive posts about the customer service at STI. Today, I got to experience it first hand. The pic of the black grips are the original set that came with the pistol. The set he gave me are better. And I do like the red. P1010402.JPG unnamed (15).jpg IMG_1021 (1).jpg

Nice looking pistol & great customer service to boot. I like the way the red looks too but if it were me the wood would probably be what it would wear. Glad to learn you had a good day.

I would have never thought it but I really like the red.

Other companies should learn from this. Are they entitled to sell accessories at a profit? Of course. But what he just did was buy a customer for life for three sets of obsolete grips.

...or the Trojan or the Spartan, my 9mm Trojan is a great shooting pistol, I would like to find a .45 ACP Trojan or Spartan V but these are like hens teeth and the asking prices for the ones that are for sale are through the roof.

Good to hear. STI was always good to me and I love their guns. I see they are going in a new direction and all so I hope they keep up the same level of support.

Glad you got your grips.

Like the wood grips as well! Outstanding customer service too!

That would make me a customer for life!

Very nice!

I am always on the lookout for a local used STI single stack, but they rarely show up around here. It is a shame, IMO, that STI has discontinued all single stack production.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. She will be wearing the wood. I could see putting on the red if we go to a BBQ together.

Can you explain what you mean by "I see they are going in a new direction...."?

well they have changed their lineup quite a bit. Also been in a mode of dropping models, renaming models and only have one single stack option w/poly grip. Basically an all DVC type lineup.

I like smooth grips (like the black and red) because they do less damage to my clothing. Two of my CCW pistols have them, one black pearlescent and the other white.

Yeah, I was greatly disappointed when I heard the news that they were dropping their 1911 line.:(
they make great guns and have great CS, but I'm just not a 2011 guy. there was a rumor going around at one point that they were working with Dave Dawson to bring the single stacks back in, but that looks to have been exactly that, a rumor and nothing more...
