"Stingray Model" Pistol

My BIL has this pistol that used to belong to his Aunt. It has a crack in the slide below the ejection port and is not safe to fire nor, I believe, worth trying to fix. So we'd like to disable it so he can use it as a paperweight.

The left side is marked " Hy Hunter Inc. Firearms Mfg. Co. Hollywood California" "Made in West Germany"
The right side is marked "Stingray Model" .25+6.35mm Caliber"





If I can get disassembly instructions I plan to either remove the striker or fill the channel with JB-Weld.

I suspect that even IF you do some or all of those things, you may still have what might be considered a LEGAL FIREARM.

You might want to talk with a gunsmith or the local PD (or, better yet, the ATF -- they have an 800 number) about how to "officially" deactivate it rather than just "functionally" deactivating the weapon. I'd go that route and save myself some potential headaches farther on down the road.

That's certainly something to consider. I might be able to weld up the chamber as an alternative. Or maybe drive in a steel plug and weld it in.

Might call the ATF on Monday if they're not sequestered.

It looks a bit like a Raven and take down *may* be similar. Try this to see if it helps (after confirming it's unloaded of course):
Pull the trigger to make sure it's not cocked, with a pen or other like item, push in the takedown button (#105 on the below diagram) on the rear of the slide. While pressing in button, pull up on the rear of the slide, at which point the rear of the slide should detach from the frame. Follow the slide forward off the frame.

It "looks" disabled now...jk. That's a very interesting roll mark on the slide. Kinda ironic to have Hollywood stamped on a gun.

Thanks. That's very close indeed.

I did find a post here on The Firearms Forum that illustrated this very gun, but under a different name. Seems they were made and then imported until the '68 GCA stopped it.

I will call the ATF on Monday to determine legal requirements to make it no longer a gun. But if they say to cut it in half that's a no go.
