Went by BPS San Antonio yesterday. They have more ammo than Ive seen in a long time. A lot of 223/5.56, and 308. A curiously large amount of 350 Legend and 300 BO. But no traditional hunting calibers like 270, 243, etc save for two boxes of lightweight 30-06. In pistol calibers they had 9mm, lots of 40, a little 45. No magnum and of course no holy grail 5.7x28.
Staff still aren’t putting prices on the shelves and just put out ammo wherever there’s a space. I guess they’re still thinking people will buy it all at any price. I did pick up 100 rounds of Herters 9mm at 30 cents per round, first I’ve bought in a long time - plinking rounds for friends and family.
The tiny reloading section was bare, no primers, no powder, just a few obscenely priced bullets. But imo that’s ‘normal’ for BPS.
I was surprised to see they had a New Ruger 44 Magnum Super Blackhawk. No price on it either.

I just ask for 5.7x28 and the blank look and a shaking of the head is the response. And yet, they have a Ruger in their case. When you buy that gun, hope they know that after the one box of ammo, that you can buy with the gun, it will be sitting in the safe. I just have not got far enough down yet, to start reloading for my FN, but it's getting close.

Only reason I bought the 9mm rounds is because I don't want to waste my precious small pistol primers on them.;)

Local Cabelas has plenty of standard handgun and rifle calibers in stock now. .308 ball is $1.50+ a round. Bulk 9mm is $.40/rd. 38, 40, 45 are $.60+ a round. But they have ammo. .22 is .08-.12 a shot. Not much bulk packaged stuff but they have significant 50-round boxes. They had a few sleeves of small rifle primers but zero pistol primers. Local Scheels has zero primers.

The Fin, Feather, Fur near Toledo had plenty of 9mm and 45 Auto ammo. Unopened cases filled the bottom shelves. Some 380 and a couple boxes of 40 S&W and 38 Spl. Lots of 223 and some 7.62x39. Some straight walled rifle ammo. It seemed that prices were getting back to some sanity level.

Local Academy had a pretty good selection yesterday; 9mm, 223, several different hunting cartridges and shotgun shells in evidence. Modest selection of Hornady bullets, but no powder or primers.

This summer, I thought things were coming back to normal. Prices dropping, increased availability.

Biden's ban on Russian ammo seems to have triggered a spike in prices for popular ammo calibers, and I'm not seeing the stuff drop like it was prior to that yet.

By this, I'm not referring to the Russian ammo prices. Seems like brass-cased ammo has jumped too, and people aren't waiting to let them drop anymore. I think a lot of folks are wary of potential future moves, and are trying to get bulk purchase when they find them.

Stopped by the LGS today to check out their selection of red dots. Only three available, so moved on to the usual patrol of the primer shelf (bare since 9/20), then the ammo shelf, then the powder shelf, and finally; the bullet shelf.

Ammo shelf was OK. I bought a box of Federal Fusion .308 165gr ammo to try in my Ruger Predator last week. It was gone today. Only two types of .40 S&W ammo available. Both overpriced. Some 9mm and hunting rounds available, but all very limited and about 100% over last year's prices.

The powder shelf had some decent deals, so I grabbed a can of TiteGroup for $22. Left the H110, Lil' Gun, 4831, 4390, and other obscure powders on the shelf for others.

Bullet shelf bursting with Hornady XTP offerings. Have plenty of those for .40 S&W, 10mm, 9mm, .45 Colt, and .30 cal so passed them by.

Things are looking better, but still far from normal. When I went to checkout with my single can of Titegroup, the checkout girl asked if I found everything I was looking for. I replied that I was thankful to find the powder. She replied that if they had primers, then it would have been perfect. I almost asked her to marry me, lol.
