Hello THR, once again I need your knowledge on firearms. While browsing the forum I fell upon a 340 dollar handgun that looks great. I've always wanted to buy a handgun in which I wouldn't be bothered if the holster caused the finish to rub off. My problem is I wonder if this thing is dependable, or if it's picky on ammunition? Has anyone fired one of these handguns before?

Mine eats up anything I put in it. Very accurate. I have nothing but good things to say about them..........especially for the price

balin's experience mirrors everything I've read about this gun. One of the great values currently out there.

Beretta "outsourced"/sold this model name to Stoeger a few years ago, and they in turn are having the gun made in Turkey, and that's why it's such a bargain. When they were Italian made they were $500-600 guns.

Turkey is really coming up in the manufacturing world, and this outsourcing of guns by other makers is a trend that's just going to increase. My experience with current production Turkish guns is great, in my Armalite AR-24. My Springfield XD was made in Croatia. Remington is reselling Baikal shotguns. Get used to it.

The only downside to the Cougar I can see is that it's a little heavy for what I want in a gun that size. But then, that's why they make polymer guns.

researched

I have researched the 'mess' out of this one. It is a Beretta with Stoeger 8000 on it. I have it on my list to have. All info. points it into the must have.
Beretta is the 'service center'

Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to see one. I've been waiting for a local store to carry them, but none have shown up around here yet. I continue to hear nothing but good things, I just wish I could get a look for myself.

I've been wondering if maybe they don't offer a model with a 10 round mag for NY, and perhaps that's why they aren't here.

After that last post I thought.. well why not just call and ask. So, I just called Benelli and the very nice woman I spoke to confirmed that is the reason. They aren't producing 10 rounds mags, but they may in the future. So, no cougar for me.

On a side note. nice and fast customer service over at Benelli/Stoeger on the phone though.
