A store keeper fired shots against an armed robber,(It seems it was the second armed robbery of the day for the suspect).

The armed robber got shot a few times.

The local media portrayed the shop keep/owner as "taking the law into his own hands" because he defended himself and his employees in his own place of business against an armed robber.

I say good for store owner for fighting back.

Sounds like a good shoot to me. If the good guy had better aim, taxpayers would not have to float the medical bills and pay for his incarceration though.

Can you provide a link?
Well no, it wasn't in the article I posted but it was said in local TV news coverage soon after it happened that the the store Mgr. "took the law into his own hands".

I think it's safe to say the thief was very lucky that the storekeeper wasn't a better shot! Good for the shooter that he had the courage and presence of mind to engage the robber.

Back in August we had a 69 year-old woman shoot an intruder in her home. (Story here. The paper gave her fair coverage, maybe even better than fair. She was treated like a heroine by everyone in town. In a follow-up story the DA said people have the right to shoot intruders.

Quite a difference.

In a very literal sense, we take the law into our hands all the time. When we decide to apply the breaks and stop the car instead of gunning the engine when the light turns yellow we "take the law into our own hands" in a very responsible manner. Taking the law into one's own hands can be a good thing, such as when a shop owner plugs a hold up artist.
