what about ball size ae you using 454 o 457?

just tying to figure if this is just a freak breakage or something i may have in my future

Update: Tested out those home brew conical bullets today. The load was 20 grains of Pyrodex Pistol, fired into some lumber. Untreated 2X4, might have been maple. Not sure though, but the bullets did this out of an 8" Remington:

What do you guys think about this expansion?

Don't 'spect ya could ask fer any better 'nat Levi.
Gotta shoot some flesh with 'em.

How ya gonna polish that mold ?

Oh, and real cool old porcelan sink.

Oh yeah, and if you got maple 2x4's stop shootin 'em and sell 'em.;)

Jim, next time I'll have to take out some kind of ballistic testing media to get an idea of the penetration. Of course, that being said bad guys or medium game isn't going to be packed with wet newspaper!:neener:

As for polishing the mold, I bet some very fine emery cloth around a wooden dowel and carefully turned that by hand would do the trick. Maybe just some polishing compound like Brasso and a .45 cotton brush in a drill press to give it a nice shine!

My dad told me they are fir, and it was only a 1' long section of board. I reckon if I were to find a bunch of maple 2X4's there's be a nice new gun around here!

Another thing of interest but a little off topic, here's what 80 grains of Goex and a 1 oz slug will do from a 16 gauge shotgun. To tell you the truth I honestly thought it would not make it through the piece of lumber. The recoil was actually lighter than a Remington factory game load with birdshot, but WOW... 4" of pressure treated lumber! I literally watched that deer slug tumble on the ground and harmlessly land at the base of a gopher mound after going through that piece of wood. The pencil marks the path of the slug, tip is going through the same way the lead did. Not really on topic, but BP related and I figured I should share it with the THR community. :D

We never use the loading lever on the revolver. Just pop out the cylinder and use this stand for it.
