Purchased a Savage 10FCP last July 4th, but haven't had a chance to really take it out of the box yet. I know... :what:
But things have been busy and I figured no point in getting it out until I had a scope for it.

So I put it together and as I'm looking down the length of the rifle, I notice that there is this whiteish brownish stuff in the end of the bolt screw. (see pictures below)

Any idea what this crud is? Should I be worried? It is what I would call granular looking. Again, never taken this out of the packaging except at Cabela's when it was purchased. Then it all went right back into the box and was untouched until it was opened and assembled today.

May need to contact SavageArms and send them the photos. What do you all think?

Bolt buggers, all guns get them this time of year......

Possibly some left over media from the final cleaning at the factory????

Definitely bolt buggers, hot cup of Mom’s home made chicken noodle soup and bed rest…

Looks like a fine sand. Possibly polishing media like Bailey Boat suggested.
Have you poked at it with a pick?… I bet it will just clean out with a little bit help.

Very nice pictures (I wish more people would post that quality of picture when asking questions)
I would send Savage the pictures and see what they say.

According to Mr. Dembinske at SavageArms,

I'm having them send a new bolt assembly screw to me. Not costing me anything (which it shouldn't).

Very happy with the service there at Savage so far. Fast replies to email and fast return calls.

I'll probably clean out the gunk in my existing screw. If there's anything of interest after I remove it, I'll take some more pics and post them. Heck, I may not even remove the existing screw if it doesn't look that bad and I can clean it up well enough. Just keep the new one as a backup.
