Strange opening mechanism

Cool. Not sure how practical it is. I have never had the need to open a folding knife one handed so I don't get real excited about such things. Even so it is a neat idea and looks like a solid design.

I prefer A/O or Spyderco thumb hole.

That opening is unique. I have only seen something similar in a Karambit.

What? None of those are strange! Is that the best you guys can do, plain old run of the mill hum drum found in every Academy Sports mechanisms?!?!o_O

LET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY FOR FOLDER MECHANISMS!

All of my folders are pretty standard versions of what they are. nail nick, thumb stud, balisong, automatic, etc.
I guess I must own dull knives...? o_O
;)

I don't know of anything weird or unusual, sorry. I tend to prefer something with a Spyderco style hole in the blade, but can make most any of them work. A flipper style is probably my least favorite. That looks like a useless Rube Goldberg contraption that serves no useful purpose. It's certainly not one handed opening. But I've gotta give the designer credit for "thinking outside the box".

I had several of these S&W "side opening" for lack of a better term, boot/pocket knives.

When worn in they were sort of a 'non-butterfly' butterfly knife. Yes, I know it's a copy of a Fallschrimjaeger knife.

Don't see that considering that's an out the front gravity knife and the S&W swinger bears no relationship to .

And this crazy thing that never existed during WWII is different as well.

Kind of reminds me of this thing,

Miserable knife, apparently called the viper. You can see by its minor rust spotting, it's sat in a box of knives for at least 15 years untouched. But since we were talking weird folders and I saw @hso 's post it reminded me that I had this.
I'm sure it was cheap or free but being unusual I'm sure I just saw it, bought it, tried it and hated the thing.

Yes
Maybe free to you as a gift? Taylor Cutlery/S&W charged people for it.

I remember the knife maker showing me the prototype at the Blade Show and I thought it was an interesting mechanism, but a bit bulky in the hand. He was a very nice guy and just wanted his prototype looked at and someone had pointed him to me. I introduced him around to some manufacturers thinking it might be produced for a year, maybe two as a curiosity. I also remember that none of the manufacturers bit on it at the time. When I saw it in production I was happy for him and disappointed in who was doing it. I must say the shop made proto was better, but that doesn't always translate to mass production.

I think this one looks really compelling but that's a dang big handle for a small blade, but I like the concept. It's more of a fixed blade with a folding blade cover.

Made by Camillus.

I think there's a push button lock on this one, but it really sort of looks like a terrible idea.
