I ran across an interesting specimen at the local pawn shop this afternoon. A S&W Model 10-5, with a 5 inch barrel tapered barrel with orange sighting mark on the front sight and a lanyard on the bottom of the grips. There appeared to be some oriental markings that had been engraved on the left side rather crudely. Other than the crude markings the gun looked mint and trigger was smooth as silk and it locked up tight. Guy at the pawn shop was speculating a possible Asian police dept. gun at some point maybe. If I remember asking price was around $369.

Don't know what that's worth, but I probably would have bought it.:)

What were the grips like?

Didn't S&W make some model 10s marked RHKP (Royal Hong Kong Police)? I just bought a 5" barrel model ten in excellent condition for $325, so, that seems in the ballpark.

S&W would fill Orders of whatever size for Foreign Customers, who in some cases, wanted Lanyard Loops or other details...and, usually, no special Markings were done by S&W, this being left up to the Agencies or as may be, who had Ordered the Revolvers.

Similarly, one still occasionally comes across Ruger Revolvers, made in the '60s or even '70s maybe, having Lanyard Loops on the Butt, and being chambered for .38 S&W, and marked so by Ruger, where such was the stipulation of a foreign Customer/Agency.

It would be interesting to know when the last S&W chambering was, for an Order stipulating .38 S&W Cartridge.

Oyeboten

I aseem to remember those Ruger Service-Sixes chambered in .38S&W. I believe they were part of a government contract for Indian police forces.

Went back and checked out this revolver closer. The lanyard is flat rectangle shape and appears to be a 5 1/2 barrel. The barrel was nearly mirror like inside. I was wrong on the price it was $329. I managed to get it in layaway for $325 OTD.

I have a 4" 10-5, and the trigger is wonderful. I like the looks of the slightly longer 5" tapered barrel, and for some reason I like lanyard loops, too. Kinda Indiana Jones, I guess.:)

Pictures are obligatory, you know.
