strange thing with my brothers ar today

at the range this morning i noticed something funny about my brothers ar. a ceasefire was called in the middle of a 10 shot string. he pulled the mag and ejected the one in the chamber and we noticed the rounds in the mag looked burned on the top. not like melt down burned but noticably discolored.

the rifle never expressed any troubles and when the line was hot again we returned to shooting without incident.

is this normal and i just never noticed it before?
 
I never noticed this. I'm going to have to start looking at my mags now. It's knida creepy. YOur ammo gets pre-heated before being chambered.
