While visiting a gun store today (Collectors Firearms) I spied, in amongst the SKS, an unfamiliar rifle. When first looking at the rack, I thought it was an SKS, because the barrel and sight looked the same. The receiver and bolt carrier were definitely different, but they seemed quite similar to an SKS, and the stock had a "dueling banjos" resemblance to an SKS stock. The tag said it was a 7.62 x 39.

    Anybody know about these rifles?

Oh yeah - they wanted ~$1150.

The Rasheed is derived from the Hakim rifle which is a slightly modified Swedish AG42 Lljungman rifle. Only about 8000 of these rifles were produced, they were mainly issued to Egyptian tank crews, alot easier to handle than an AK with a 30 round clip in confined spaces such as a tank. $1150 is a little steep, I seen them on GunBroker from $600 to $800. I got mine when they were still cheap $225 :D

    My brother has the Hakim

Big, ugly, heavy, accurate, 8mm Mauser. Interesting rifle. I've been told that the Rasheed was everything the Hakim wasn't and should have been more popular.

Looks like a cross between an M-1 Carbine and a Mini-14.
