Stripping an AR lower for cleaning?

There are many more here that know a lot more than me, but a lower really doesn't get too dirty. I may spray some brake cleaner in there and let it dry and then lube the hammer and maybe put a drop of lube on the moving parts.

I can't think of any good reason to completely disassemble a lower for cleaning, but taking the selector out is easier than the rest of the parts so you wouldn't be saving any work by doing it that way.

If you are gonna take it completely apart, might as well go all the way.

But again I can't think of any reason to do that other than to repair something.

I don't think stripping a lower would be to much fun either. I see flying detents in your future if you go ahead with this idea.

There is no reason atall to tear it completely apart unless it is broke.

1. Gun-Scrubber: (The lazy way)
2. Can of solvent & a small paint brush & compressed air: (The gunsmith way)
3. Just an old toothbrush, and some elbow grease. (The GI way)

a dab of oil on the axis and the hammer is all you need. No grime that can't be wiped clean with a napkin or a q-tip really gets into the lower.

There is no reason to take it apart to clean it. They don't get that dirty. If you really must do more than wipe it clean, use spray solvent or submerge it in a bucket of Balistol solution.
