So I want a new stock w/ a decent cheek weld and basic storage.

I am currently looking at the MAGPUL UBR, and Vltor EMOD.

There are a few questions I have that are keeping me on the fence.

I have a Milspec tube, so can the Emod just drop in, or do i need the Vltor receiver extension?

How hard is it to install the UBR? Do I have to remove my current tube, castle nut etc?

The UBR is appealing because its fixed cheek weld and its just badass, but damn it sure is heavy.

I would take the EMOD over the UBR if it just drops onto my current tube, and its half the price.

But if I have to remove/replace my current tube for either the UBR or EMOD, I will most likely go w/ the UBR.

IIRC the EMod comes in either Mil-Spec or Commercial sizes. If you get the Mil-Spec size it drops right on. The Emod is no lightweight either but very comfortable. Only complaint I've heard is that the seams between the storage compartments and the stock body can sometimes grab facial hair if it is too long. I have an EMod on my 15-22 (dropped right on, no wiggle) and love the improved cheekweld and added weight. Should be able to find a used one but beware of the many chinese clones out there.

AIM Surplus has B5 SOPMOD stocks $99 shipped.

Oh no!! I am a full bearded dude!!!!!!

I may have to find a way to address than.

On my Coloraqdo AR forum, someone kindly pointed out that they are 6' tall, and the UBR's check weld is too short for them, causing them to rest on only the rear half or less of the cheek weld!

I am 6'2" 210lbs, and i have never shot w/ my stock forward of the 3rd to last position.

So I am thinking more and more that the EMOD will be my stock.

The ar15 is meant to be shot nose to charging handle, and the ubr is perfect for this. That is the point of the ubr. To always have the same cheek weld no matter the stock position or how big or small the shooter is.
