There are currently available for purchase a rock island 1911; has had some customization done; aftermarket hammer, grip safety, slide rlease, trigger, grips- it is a full-sized 1911. Asking price with 2 magazines is $500

Second is an Essex-framed 1911, with a Remington? slide; maybe from ww2 vintage? trigger is adjustable; otherwise it appears "stock"- comes with 2 magazines- asking price is $535

What are the pro's/con's of each?

Thanks!

Unless you are a 1911 expert, or know beyond doubt who made the aftermarket parts for the RI, and who installed them, avoid it.

Essex frames are fine, I've some guns built on them and they are excellent. But the same goes for it: unless you know for sure who built it and what parts were used, pass.

There are likely very good reasons these guns are for sale after somebody spent all that time and effort to 'customize' them.

You can get a new, virgin, unaltered, reliable RI for less, I believe.
