Stupid question of the week: difference between Ruger MKII and MKIII 22/45 mags?

The MKIII is designed to workwith the mag safety so that the firearm can fire only with the mag in, my understanding is if you remove the mag safety from the MKIII you can use previous model magazines.

Both have the side mounted mag release... what's the difference between the two 22/45 mags?
MKIII 22/45 magazines have a cut out near the top left hand side (as viewed from the rear). This is a clearance cut for the MKIII trigger.
MKII 22/45 magazines do not have this cut out (the MKII trigger is slightly different from that of the MKIII)

The catch shelves are slightly different, as are the follower buttons

There is a photo showing the differences here: http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14663367&postcount=9

MKIII 22/45 magazines should work without issue in MKII 22/45s.
MKII 22/45 magazines could cause occasional trigger issues when used in MKIII 22/45s.

Interchangeability can vary in individual weapons due to manufacturing tolerances.

Greg
