Suggestions For AR-15 Upper

It all depends on what you want the rifle to do.

For my "general purpose" AR, I went with an M4gery upper with railed free-float forearm.

If you are looking into precision shooting, a heavy-barreled varmit upper may be what is called for.

There are about a thousand options these days. I am kind of in the same boat. Building my 3rd AR and have no idea what I want out of it. At one point I was thinking 7.62x39 but I don't know that I can bring myself to do that.

What will it be used for? My next upper will probably be in .458 socom, when something really needs to go down, and the next a 6mmBR for LR shooting. It is all about intended use.

I think an upper in 25 wssm would be pretty cool. Not a plinker but a good hunting gun. A 7mmBR would be pretty cool to as well as a 10mm auto. Myself I am just sticking to a 223. I have a kit on order now we will just see how long it takes to come in. It mainly depends on what you want to do with the rifle.

Anything from NOVESKE should work.

Now that you got that Noveske of yours that is all you recommend. Although it is a good choice, it is over the top for some. LMT and Colt are other companies that make very nice AR's. Rock River, Bushmaster, Stag, CMMG, DPMS, and the like all make nice enough guns for most of us.

So let us know what you need the gun to do and we can give you a better idea.

Go balls out and get a Noveske for a DI upper. Or if you want to jump on the piston band wagon then LWRC. It's pricey but worth it.

How much do you want to spend, and what role(s) do you want the gun to cover?

Any recommendations without knowing these factors are pretty useless. There's no upper that does everything better than every other upper.

Well said. Just because you have a Noveske doesn't mean you should recommend it to others without knowing their wants and needs.
Heck, I have 3 Noveske's, but I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and recommend it to the OP.

heh, i thought all he recommended was SEI Crazyhorse M14s :p

If you Really want to wait a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time, go for a Bohica. Mine is in ups's hands and slated for delivery tomorrow. 17 months and counting, and yes I do have a tracking number that works....

LMT uppers are hard to beat - MUCH higher quality than the lower tier DPMS, BM, STAG....etc. Noveske and Colt will do the job too. Another option is BCM or Sabre Defence. Good luck.

Noveske 16.1" Recon uppers really are the best option for a general purpose AR. Nearly as compact as an M4, reliable as a rifle-length upper, and as accurate as many bull barrel setups.

I just bought a DPMS CAR [16 in. barrel, colapsable buttstock, flat rail]. I have a full size Colt AR but wanted to have a CAR for close up situations.

Stag is the best bang for the buck by far. A complete stag upper only runs for around $500. If the parts were purchased seperately, your looking at around $600.
