Local news last night. They made it sound like the raid was because of the "excessive ammount of guns".

(Dalzell)- Deputies say an arrest warrant was issued to Alex Deas at his home on Ben Sanders Road in Dalzell on Thursday of last week. Police say Deas physically abused his wife in early September.

They also learned about his extensive gun collection from family members. Police say that prompted them to obtain a search warrant to confiscate the weapons.

News of the arrest continues to baffle some of Deas's neighbors.

Neighbor Geneva Ray said, "It just surprised me to know that Mr. Deas had all those guns up there, and I know him."

Sumter County Sheriff Tommy Mims added, "Cops seized the 124 weapons to include the .30 caliber machine gun."

Sheriff Mims say Deas is being charged with criminal domestic violence and unlawful possession of a machine gun.

If convicted, he could receive up to ten years in prison or pay up to a ten thousand dollar fine.

Deas is in the Sumter County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
