Suppress Which?

Ok, I have thought I would probably suppress my .22 (10/22) first and then, hopefully, suppress my .308 (bolt Ruger) hunting rifle. I have not fully committed to this yet and was wondering if there is a reason I should suppress the 308 first. Here are my thoughts:

- .22 suppressor is cheaper.
- I shoot the .22 more.
- The 308 is alot louder and the suppressor would "help" more.
- To get the full effect I would have to buy sub-sonic 308 ammo which would drop the range and this ammo is a good bit more expensive.

What are your thoughts? Start with .22? Start with 308?

Easy answer is start with the .22 for both reasons 1 and 2. You will get less use out of the .308, all other things being equal, and you can always wear hearing protection until you get the money saved, the .308 can bought, and the Form 4 returned.

But that is just my opinion; I could be wrong.

i started with the 308. but i also bought a 5.56 can with a quick detach to shoot 22LR through. i win all the way around.

I jumped in with both feet and bought 4 cans at the same time, less painful wait that way. .30 cal, .45 cal, 5.56, and .22. Now it is just wait-wait-wait!

I'd say start with the .22 can, learn to reload and preferably cast as well, then get the .308 can.
With all the wait time involved with stamp collecting, its easily possible to work on more than one project at a time, although most of us can't afford to "go for the gusto", like TIMC did.

Be careful with shooting .22 rimfire or cast bullets through a sealed can, both are inherently dirty and unless you clean the can regularly (there are ways to do so), you can get buildup that could eventually cause baffle strikes.

Go for the .308 to start with, but use standard ammo. with a good design you get :

better grouping, much less recoil and of course less noise.

In the meantime, the .22 does not make much noise anyway.
