Suppressor for an M1a?

Can anyone suggest mid-range to high-end suppressors for the M1a? Though I could pick something up immediately for >$500, if its worth it to wait and pay up to $1000 I would be willing to do that long term. I have no idea as to the quality of individual brands, durability and longevity, etc., so if there are preferred manufacterers out there let me know.

Um... last I checked the M1a did not have a 'normally' threaded muzzle.

The Cyclone, YHM, and most other .30 cal products would require you to put on a secondary front sight and have your barrel tip threaded, no?

I'm in the same position and I'll give you my reasoning for the AAC 762SD.

1) Fast attach mount - AAC is currently making a fast attach mount for M1A/M14. It will double as a flash hider when the suppressor is not attached.

2) The 762SD is relatively light compared to its competitors and stronger due to the automated welding AAC uses.

3) With the can being light, and having a fast attach mount, you can pretty much use it on any gun that has a fast attach mount (.30 cal and under). My plan is to use the 762SD on an AR15 as well as an M1A. You are really getting multiple cans in one with this flexibility. Over at the Silencertalk.com one of the members tested this out with favorable results.

Just as a heads up, the M1A is not the best platform to be suppressed. It will work, but you'll probably have to add an adjustable gas plug and tune it a bit. Check at silencertalk for more info under the M14/M1A section.

No, it won't work on a Springfield SOCOM-II. It requires an M14 or M1A that has an M14 flash hider thread -- which is all of them except for the short Springfields which have no flash hiders at all.

Thanks on all the info, guys, thats really getting me started in the right direction. I hadn't heard that the M14 would need an adjustable gas plug for suppressed use, so thats good to look into

On the socom series isn't the gas block and flash hider (sort of) integrated into one piece? Seems like that would take some fabrication to make a solution that would work for a threaded end.

Why?

I could see doing a suppressor for a bolt rifle, where you can make some very nice big ugly subsonic loads (think 220 grain bullets), but for a semi-auto, it just seems sort of academic. For a long-range shot, how much will the suppressor affect the overall accuracy?

One of the side effects of suppressing a rifle is the major backpressure boost. That's why an adjustable gas system is needed.

Re: socom. IIRC, the actual bbl on the socom is LESS than legal length. Springfield got a pass from the ATF because the integrated flash suppressor. Be careful in modifying a M1A socom for this reason.
