Looks like Heller vs DC is on the docket for the Supreme Court

"What we ban is a weapon that is uniquely dangerous, that is easily concealed and that is disproportionately used in crime," said Linda Singer, Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
In a surprising ruling, a federal appeals court earlier this year declared the ban a violation of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The law was challenged by a Washington, D.C., resident who claimed the Constitution gives him a right to own a handgun for self-defense.
...in a city with a disproportionate amount of violent crime, in which the only ones with guns are the criminals! :banghead:the AG said:"What we ban is a weapon that is uniquely dangerous, that is easily concealed and that is disproportionately used in crime"
The 30-year-old law in question makes it illegal to posses [sic] a handgun inside the city but allows citizens to own shotguns or rifles. Most of the shootings in the city are committed with handguns.
The irony of that statement is clear to anyone reading THR. Are we the only ones who appreciate it?
If Heller wins w/o the SC addressing the issue of the long arms having to be disassembled while in a DC home, DC will likely pass a law making it mandatory that handguns be disassembled or locked up while in the home.
§ 7-2507.02 Firearms required to be unloaded and disassembled or locked
Except for law enforcement personnel described in § 7-2502.01(b)(1), each registrant shall keep any firearm in his possession unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock or similar device unless such firearm is kept at his place of business, or while being used for lawful recreational purposes within the District of Columbia.
"What we ban is a weapon that is uniquely dangerous, that is easily concealed and that is disproportionately used in crime," said Linda Singer, Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
