Surefire insanity

Lawyers love people like you.

You are the only one who mentioned lawyers. Why is that?

Also I hardly consider putting a flashlight in my pocket as a misuse. I have been puting flashlights in my pocket for almost 40 years and none previously have set me on fire.

Surefire makes the best flashlights on the market, regardless of what they have to charge to make them. Why don't you get on the phone with one of the three shops in the country that do hard anodizing and find out how much it would cost you to machine and hard anodize a flashlight body. Are they making profits, sure, but they are a business. No profits, no company. If you want a maglight, go buy one, but don't accuse someone who wants anything top of the line of being on drugs. $1M for a house? $100K for a car? $10K for a shotgun? $1K for a bottle of wine? $400 for a flashlight. Who are you to tell anyone that wants one of these things that they shouldn't have it?

I detect some sour grapes.

'Bout time you chimed in Techbrute. I'm going to miss the shoot yet again - gonna be out of town :( . Say Hi to the crowd.

The thread may have kicked off with a "gotta be on drugs" remark but it seemed to degenerate into civility shortly afterward. :D

Minor thread hijack: Just watched CSI - what kind of flashlights are they using on that show?

Not a fan of the lockout tailcap

I have replaced both stsndard lockout tailcaps on my M2 and M3 with Surefires Z48 click on click off tailcaps. There designed to not turn on without really pushing the inbedded cap switch button.

Between family, job, shooting, and trying to find some time to sleep, I've been falling behind on my THR quota. :D

:( We're having TWO this month, and you're still gonna miss them? :(

Surefires, mostly. The turbo head makes quite a few appearances, as well as the venerable 6P.

Just so this post has something to do with the thread:

It's nice to have some things that are top of the line. A top of the line flashlight falls within my budget. A top of the line airplane... maybe someday... probably not. In the mean time, I've got my Surefires. :D

Not a fan of the lockout tailcap
I've come across 3 types of tailcaps on my surefires:
  1. Press for instant on, twist for constant on - no lockout.
  2. Press for instant on, press hard (click) for constant on - has lockout.
  3. Press partially for stage one, press completely for stage two, twist partway for stage one constant on, twist completely for stage 2 constant on - has lockout.
    [/list=1]
Number 1 is their original tailcap, found on the older lights (like my old-school 6Z) and on the current G2.
Number 2 is the type found on the current 6P, L4, etc.
Number 3 is found on the A2, L1, and L2.

The lockout doesn't really affect the type of switch that's on your light. I can't really understand how one wouldn't be a fan of the lockout. It doesn't affect the operation when you're using it.

I think you might be referring to the clicking feature that you don't like, not the lockout feature. The two aren't related.
