I have seen them a lot at gun shows and surplus stores but up until now have ignored them as they are usually asking way too much, no point in buying used when new ones could be bought online for same/less. Obviously it's a little more difficult to just order up new mags right this moment.

So the other day I'm at a local gun shop and they have a bunch of these surplus mags for $10 apiece. Normally would just pass right by and order up a few more C products or PMags but got kind of curious and bought a few just for the heck of it. They are obviously used but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with them, no cracks or anything in the feed lips and no dents anywhere. The base plates are a mix of three manufactures:

Parsons Precision Products

Kav Industries

Sanchez Ent.

Obviously wouldn't bother if the regular mag supply wasn't tight right now... How bad could these things be? I haven't had a chance to try them yet but I don't see any reason they should work just fine. Anybody else buy surplus mags?

your probibly thinking of KAY industries not KAV

but they are all legitimate GOV contractors.

That's all I own. Never gave me any issue when I was in the service, and my Father-in-law had a whole case of them.

There should be a circle around part of the "KAY" -- it's actually Okay Industries.

The Sanchez magazines supposedly had a bad production lot or something along the way. I couldn't remember the details, but googling turned up an article on Fulton Armory's website that says if they have black followers they're suspect, green followers should be okay.

anyone refinish these mags? i got a bunch that i'd like to do myself but don't know how. don't mean to hijack the thread,...
