OK folks - time now to start firming this up. Started this new thread but will notify of it on old one. caseydog and I will be having a chat soon when we meet at a shoot - to get some plans sorted and into shape.

Main thing tho now, over next week or so, is to have confirmations please on who is coming, so we have a good idea re numbers. Seems like potentially we have quite a good number but - if you said yes before - say it again if still up for this, so we know.

Thus far re food - seems like an easy notion is - bring some stuff - basics like burgers, dogs, buns, etc - enough for your self and travel companions - plus a bit. That way - we should have plenty to suit when we do a cook-up later in day.

caseydog says he has a 64 quart cool box so - if that is primed with ice on the day - just bring some 6 or 12 packs of soda - which can then go in it. Your own cool boxes too of course will be handy.

OK - that's it for now but - all planning to come please watch this space as we get nearer to time. This should be a great fun day. I and caseydog will be RO'ing - as ever, safety is paramount.

This was the directions - copied from other thread, so you still have it for reference. Major queries on that - PM me or caseydog.

From #1 to #4 is just an increase in scale - to give more detail. Hopefully these will be pretty much enough on their own. Note - for initial start point with your own maps - check out R219, R22 and relationships with Johnstown PA and Ebensburg PA.

We will put a sign at the entrance to track on R164 and another arrow sign further up. Plus, I'll check with Ray and see if we can expect a useful cell phone signal - should be Ok - and that way we can ''talk you in'' if any prob's.

The approx distance from Portage, driving to East - to range - is in region of three miles. From the tight curve to East, near reservoir, is approx half mile or so when heading West, to range track. Oh and BTW - driving East is a gradual up grade in region of range track.

He reminded me - there is a block built grill thing there already so - chances are we'll bring some charcoal and get a good fire going later in the day - therefore, probably be good if folks throw in some dogs and burgers etc.

Please post or PM if queries thus far. Pic #3 should in the end be probably the best final reference.

Spot77 and I will be along and will be giving the new Jeep it's shakedown cruise!

If it weren't a 3 to 4 hour drive, i'd come down! It's a shame you're so far out there. Of course, Johnstown is about due south for me. Hmmm... that's awfully far to drive.

jobu - appreciate the prob - (it's similar to my drive out East), and I guess much on 219 - which while a pretty run is not the simplest or quickest. If you should decide different just holler but, quite understand. :)

I'm really starting to get excited about this.....I'm so ready for a break from the day to day tedium of students, grades, progress reports!

So, how many people do you have going to this shindig? Any class 3 goodies? :D Entice me and I might drive down with some of my stuff. ;)

Paul - it will I hope make a nice, if short, break for most of us. Time to chill a bit and enjoy - tho I hope weather does not do a dirty on us - tho we'd manage.

jobu - I'm afraid no class 3's on the horizon - mainly a selection of ''average'' stuff, tho - I shall have some cannons and some screamers for the #1! Numbers as yet not finite - could be as low as 8-10 or maybe make 15-16 - hard to tell right now. But I doubt a ''mega'' event - just a nice group of us.

8-10 people would be a perfect number...just enough to have a community atmosphere without it getting too crowded.

Remind me again about the food situation (Because I LOVE to eat).....did somebody once mention something about everybody bringing something for a group lunch or should I just have my kids make a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for me? :)

Scott - my suggestion is for folks to bring enough with them (per capita) so they have enough each and some - if then we pool everything, we can have a session with the grill at later end of day. That way we don't have too long a cease fire thru the better part of day, tho heaven knows, I love my eating too!.

For earlier - lunch or call it what you will - perhaps just have something to ''get ya thru'' - if that means peanut butter/jelly sandwiches - no prob!! ;) I'll probably just bring a coupla sandwiches myself for that purpose.

Bring a few soda's too if ya can - and we'll throw all of those in caseydog's large cooler together.

I'm hoping to be there. I'll be driving over from Indiana, PA.

See Prior Link for a list of what I plan to bring. Let me know what other stuff I should bring!

My ARMS mount and cantilever spacer arrived on Monday. With luck I can get the M3 sighted in this weekend. Then I just need to order up more ammo....

No 6920 for a few more weeks, unfortunately.

If anyone has a suppressor or other Class 3 toy, please bring it. If you have a 5.56mm suppressor, even better, I'm thinking of buying one.

Beren - great! IIRC Anapex and Girl with a Gun will be coming down from where their folks are in Indiana PA.

As for what to bring - no real suggestions really - just what you want to have with you. Obviously ''items of interest'' are good for all to drool over.

Chances are we'll have a good selection over all - a good chance (as usually is the case) for folks to try other platforms etc. Not likely so far we have any Class 3's or even cans.

There is much I can bring (ask Norton or Spot! - or caseydog come to that) - and I always carry way too much. However, anyone with ''special requests'', chime in before hand, in case I or others can bring 'em along.

Indeed P95 has a plethora of goodies to bring :D What'cha itching to shoot, Chris?

I'll have the STG58, Garand, USP9, SA Mil-Spec, SKS and maybe the Savage 110 if someone wants to help me get it dialed in.

What'cha itching to shoot, Chris?
Hahaha! everything!!

Seriously - I will be surprised if, as ever on such occasions - I get to (or remember) to shoot everything I want to!!

I forget the cal of your 110 - anyways, do bring it along. I have a halfways decent spot scope so we should if conditions Ok - be able to get that set up. Have you bore sighted yet? If not then I must remember to bring my laser thingie. I need to recheck my .243 cal 99C but doubt I'll get to it.

Garand will be nice too to have a drool over.

Otherwise - just about anything is good. Drop in a shottie, in case we can work in an hour of hand thrown clays. Not sure how it'll work out but - it's a possible.

Does anyone have an FR8 they can bring? I'd love to buy one of those. The only thing I'd love to do more is shoot one before I commit to buying it. ;)

So Anapex and GwaG are from Indiana? Might be able to carpool with them then if they're interested. Depends on whether I con anyone else into coming with me, and I'm not sure if I would be staying all day or not.

I better bring a box of ammo so I can beg some trigger time on that Garand.

A big box from Midway showed up yesterday and today in came my new 375 H&H. I can't wait to compare recoil between it an Chris's 45/70.
Has anyone got a .454 or strong 45 Colt to bring? I have some ammo to load but nothing to shoot it from. Does anyone cast bullets? I've got several pounds of lead to give away.

The 458 Lott is not going to make the trip, it isn't going to be back from the smith in time.

I almost ready, all I have to do now is load 2-4000 rounds.

David

Does anyone have an FR8 they can bring?

I have one, but i'm still not sold on driving down there yet. It does sound tempting. Food, guns, good times, and fellow THRer's. Yep, would definatly be a good time.

FR8? - can't think of anyone Beren - least not right now. See what Dave (Anapex) says re where they are coming from - but hey - if you come down that far - man, you gotta stay the day thru - I mean .. come on!! :p

David - WOW! - nice, a 375 H&H eh - tasty! :) Lead? Yes please - just point it at my truck when you arrive ;) (is it lead or alloy - lead still more than acceptable tho).

.454? No sweat - my SRH 9" will be aboard along with it's other cannon friends.

I have a feeling the H&H may just get the edge on my 45-70 loads for #1 but - they will still give a significant grin! I still have to check sights on that rifle since fitting concentric rings. Guess I'll just have to shoot it a bit, tho it might get an airing too this coming Sunday as well. :)

Oops jobu we posted together.

Well - it will hopefully be a very pleasant day - but I do appreciate your distance factor. Should you decide to come do tho if poss' please mention in advance if you can.

Neglecting my posting lately , should have been here sooner !

I'll have a gas grill up there , so anything that can be cooked on that is fine, also as Chris said I have a big 60 something quart cooler that will be there as well as a smaller 1 (mainly for drinks prolly) , I have a dedicated water jug as well , so I'll bring some fresh water and a bit of hand cleaner.

My wife will probably do a batch of macaroni salad and maybe some baked beans or other picnic type side dish.

If someone would just rather bring a few cases or big jugs of pop , soda or whatever you call it , go ahead and someone will have more than enough food to cover you, just tell us what you're bringin to eliminate duplication (Legionnaire I think you mentioned that).

As far as guns I'm pretty mundane in that dept , I'll have 6 or 8 S&W revo's , P7M8, G19 , S&W 3913, Winnie SuperX2 for the clays , maybe a Mini and a Marlin lever , aw heck I'll bring all I can fit in the truck :D

Thats all I can think of for now.... Ray

Ps: Oh , lawn chairs ! those who have room throw one or 2 in , there is a couple up there but not near enough, I'll also have a mini rifle rest, a few sandbags and a spotting scope , Chris usually brings the same so not necessary to bring more unless you have a special need for something of your own. Bench space will be at a premium by the sounds of it :D
