I know this has been discussed at length, and both sides of the argument are pretty serious in their opinion. I'm not asking for opinions on randomly switching.
I recently dropped off my EDC to have some work done. Anyone who's seen my "tribal" Sig 1911 U.C. is aware of how I detest the tribal graphics that were laser etched and inlayed black on the stainless slide.

So I took the plunge, decided to have the graphics professionally removed and the slide cerakoted in target gray to approximate the brushed stainless. If they're able, they may polish the slide back to original stainless finish. Just gotta wait and see.

So for the time being (2-3 weeks possibly) I'm going to be carrying the new Sig Match Elite in .38 Super. It's a full size, all steel gun and I'm carrying it in the Galco V-Hawk I acquired from a member here. 20210326_155609.jpg

2 days in and it doesn't seem much different, except for the extra 1-3/4" in length when I sit down. 20210424_182408.jpg
Just not sure if Iike the idea of the ambi safety carrying cocked and locked.

That holster covers the trigger pretty well, and you still have the grip safety. If it's making you uncomfortable, what other options do you have?
I'm not really uncomfortable, yet. I'll know more in the next couple of days after I wear this set-up to work. Lots of awkward movement and body positioning working on cars, but I can always unholster and place it in my toolbox.

As for other options, I'd be limited to pocket carrying a .380 or open carrying which I refuse to do. Don't have suitable holsters for anything else. I guess I could always just pop the ambi-safety out and install a conventional, left side only.

I can understand why you want to remove the tribal graphics. If it had been my only option, I don’t think I would have bought mine. But I seem to remember that you
got a great deal on it, right? I think I paid + or - $900 for mine and you paid 700-750?

Nice 1911. That's what I'm hoping mine looks like when it's done. I paid right at $750 for it brand new with tax and all. Stripping and polishing is going to run about $100 if it's doable I think. If it's getting cerakoted it'll be more like $175, which pretty well takes up what I saved.

You've switched to one with almost identical controls, so I'd consider that a bonus. The only real differences ought to be weight and slide length. Were I in your shoes, I'm pretty sure I'd be banging the pistol on chair arms as I sat down more than usual, but I'm clumsy, so there's that.

Just not sure if Iike the idea of the ambi safety carrying cocked and locked.

Lots of people happily carry loaded (with round in chamber) striker-fired pistols having a trigger pull weight of 5 pounds and less with no manually operated safety (the very definition of "cocked and unlocked"), not to mention sans grip safety. Realize that should the 1911 pistol you worry about being unsafe to carry due to the possibility of the ambi-safety being inadvertently moved from "safe" to "fire", if the "worst" happened (safety moved to "off") you'd be carrying much the same thing as how most typical striker-fired pistols are configured and carried-plus you'd have something most of them don't-a passive grip safety.

I have had the ambi controls disengage in the holster a few times (one of the reasons I dont like them) but with the grip safety you should be fine as long as you keep in mind it might be off when you draw, but proper safety measures with a loaded gun shouldn't really change if you have a safety on or off.

I'm sure I was overthinking the safety. Never carried... actually never owned a 1911 with ambi safety. In my head it seems to be in the way sometimes.

I share your displeasure with the so-called "Tribal" markings on your gun. Looks kind of juvenile to me and I don't know if I would have bought it like that, even with the great deal you got on it.

This is the only extra marking I have on any of my 1911s and it's one I completely approve of!

That marking doesn't look the least bit out of place.
I'm no fan of additional decor on guns of any type, unless it's tasteful factory engraving/checkering.
I'd said before, I didn't know what tribe the Sig was geared toward, but the design would have been more at home on a mid-90's Honda lowrider.

I do love everything else about the gun, as it has features I wished the Colt Defender it replaced had.

That tribal Sig is hideous! I would be making the change like you as well.

But then again my carry firearm (glock) is constantly criticized for it's appearance so whom I to judge.

You tribal Sig does look like a great carry piece those as far as function and size goes.

I had to look this up cause I haven't seen this Sig, wasn't sure what you meant by tribal. Yep, gotta agree. Hate it, big time big time hate it. I'm just curious, you bought it with the graphic you hate, how come?

Was it something you liked or thought you could live with initially or got a screaming deal?

I had a similar issue with my Sig P226. It was a “Frankengun” with a 1999 German frame and a 2013 Engraved Factory upper (and it came out of the Sig CPO program that way!). I ended up buying/building a new slide and selling the engraved one. I almost broke even!

I like the “classic” look much better!

Surely something about the 226 just calls to my soul. But I don't like the E2 grips myself.

The story begins with a Colt Defender I had bought from a LGS that was owned by a friend. Gun had problems that a local gunsmith couldn't figure out. It got sent back to Colt, couple weeks later it came back and still wasn't fixed. My friend offered to order me something else or wait and send that Colt back again.

The Sigs had front grip checkering, night sights, and beveled mag well. All things I wish the Colt would have had. A distributor was going out of business and had the Sig Tribal for like $675. All the ones without the design were $850-$875 his cost. I paid $700+tax for the Colt, so told him get the Tribal one and we'd call it even.

I knew it was ugly but until I had it in hand, didn't know how ugly.

I actually like them...I have them on both my P226 and my P227. They fit my hands well. That said, I have Hogue panel grips on my P220 and G10 grips on my P228 and they feel fine, too!

Lots of boats floating on the Sea of Subjectivity. I like them a lot; fit my XL hand almost perfectly. Like Navy87Guy, I have them on my Models 226 and 227.

Yep, just giving my personal opinion. Never claimed otherwise. My wife loved the E2 grips on a 229 I had, but she likes her 228 better.

I liked them best on the 227, but to be fair I never got to try a 227 without them so I didn't have a comparison.

My favorite are the Legion grips.

I had a P226 when they first came out. The factory grips were alright but still a bit of a reach for my smaller size hand. The factory grips on my brother's P228 were somewhat better, and when I tried the E2 grips on a P229 I knew I had found just the right size and shape grips for my hand!
