Swung by the local Cabelas this morning ...

Swung by the local Cabelas (Gainesville, VA) this morning after my fortnightly grocery shopping. Wow! Still depressing.

I thought (hoped) that by now they may have a fledgling getting-back-to normal stock of consumable reloading supplies, among other firearms-related items, starting to trickle in.

    Not.

<shrug> I was in the area.

Well, perhaps there is a Trickle occurring, but, if so, I apparently arrived earlier in that process than I would like.

The ammunition gondola is still formatted for product but mostly empty except for bulk-packs of a few flavors of range-grade ammo.

What used to be the reloading/propellant gondola is filled with ... other stuff ... so they, apparently, have not received enough product of that type to reconfigure.

They do have some hand- and long-guns on display but the stock is thin.

Would have been nice to find an overpriced bottle (or two) of Lil'Gun ... but I have comfortable supplies of many other propellants (and primer & bullets), so ...not a biggie. :)

I got caught short on the Lil'Gun (with only 1lb on-hand) because I did not build my first .300AAC until after the current Silliness had ramped-up.

I sure hope that Cabelas manages to weather this situation. I can still recall a few years ago when they opened. I received a sale flyer in the mail that prominently featured GUNS for sale. :D

A major reason for my naturally liking both Cabelas and Rural King. ;)

    We'll get there.

There is a Cabelas, Sportsmans Warehouse, and a BPS all about 35-50 miles away. Cabelas and BPS are in opposite directions. SW and BPS are pretty close. I see 223/5.56, 9mm, 12 ga, and 308. But that is about it. Not just at the big stores, but everywhere. There is a local gun shop with decent powder and bullet supplies, but no primers.

Guns, are plentiful. At least certain types.

Luckily I'm in good shape for a while. The only thing I wish I had more of was 20 ga shells. I can't find any anywhere. I can find 12, 16, 410, even 28. But no 20.

I like reading these reports. It seems stuff is out there, just really hit and miss and odd selections. I'm hoping the ammo gods will eventually smile on us and things will align.

A guy at work asked if I had any '06 for sale (I dont). He was asking for his brothers, uncles, nephews, sisters, 2nd-cousins, former roommate- because its nearly deer season where this guy lives and he cant get any. Apparently this fella is down on his luck and is hoping for some extra protein in the freezer as well, not just a rack on the wall.

I told him if he can find someone to load it for him, Id gladly send him 20 cases and bullets, gratis, but thats all I could do to help. :(

It’s a barren wasteland out there.

No percussion caps for muzzle loading revolvers. I’ve given up.

Hahahaha ... yeeeeah, I did let that get away from me, a bit. Sorry'bout that.

Just one person's autonomic response to painful-to-read monolithic posts ... that went a little over the top this time. :)

Ellipsis-infested run-on sentences are also among my posting idiosyncrasies. ;)

Got a text this morning that the local Fleet Farm had WWB 9mm for $17.99 a box, limit 5. Went there late this afternoon and they still had about 50 boxes. Have also found SPP's locally at almost pre-chinese flu prices (although I think it pays to be a very regular customer). The local Cabelas and the LGS's have a decent supply of new guns but used guns are kinda sparse.

Sunday after church, at the Katy BPS, hidden behind the few bags of 9mm brass, was a single bag of 45 Colt brass. Score!

No powders or primers, some projectiles on the shelf...glad I've got plenty. No revolvers, but plenty of semi-autos, rifles and shotguns. A decent amount of ammo. Prices were still up on most everything.

    @GBExpat -

You may try IMR 4227 in your 300. It's been in stock recently at Midway and Powder Valley. Good luck with your search.

Thanks, James, I appreciate that! I will familiarize myself with 300BLK load data for IMR4227.

Hopefully, I will be able to avoid having to workup a new standard load. If I do, I have a big & wide selection in my "bunker" from which to choose.

IMR4227. That happens to be the original mainstream propellant with which I have continuously worked since I started reloading in '68. Never been without a can. :)

Ive been able to obtain a few bricks of primers to replace what I’ve used so I’m leaving stuff on the shelf for the next guy and hopefully doing my part to ease the pricing pressure. Some of the stuff I don’t shoot much like 30-06 and 5.7x28 can wait for better prices.

    Glad to help!
I started with 4227 as I couldn't find Lil Gun, I recently switched to Lil Gun as I ran out of 4227! That is until I found it online. BTW, Powder Valley has the better price. I've had good luck with 4227 in 300 Blk and 450 Bushmaster. If you'd like, pm me and I'll share what I've tried so far.
