I bought a tac 14 a bit ago and I'm looking to make it a better home defense/car gun. I have a QD sling attachment and a folding "Arm brace" on their way from Suarez Tactical. This will make it register-able as a pistol in MI, so I can carry it loaded. I'm mostly looking for recommendations on a light mount, fore grip, and tube extention.

Your Tac-14 already has a Magpul forend on it (I had to add one to my Shockwave). I just installed a short piece of M-Lok rail and then added an InForce WML. The button is right where my thumb can access it easily and it provides great illumination. Any sort of vertical or angled fore grip will just be for mall ninja effect, although some Talon Grips decals will give a stickier, more sure grip. If you're worried about getting your hand out in front of that short barrel, a Magpul handstop can be added to keep your fingers away from the muzzle and safely attached to your hand.

BTW, you'll want to be careful about adding a folding brace to your Tac-14. The original bird's head grip puts it at just over the legal length (26.3") to fall into that magical gray area of being a "firearm" and not a SBS under the NFA. If the gun fails to measure greater than 26 inches in length with the brace folded, you might be putting yourself in legal jeopardy. I added a pistol brace to my Shockwave, but eschewed the folding option for that exact reason.

I found the magpul hand stop to be rough when firing, didn’t enjoy it at all. I ordered a canvas strap with m-lok attachments, it is very similar to the mossberg strap. Very functional and doesn’t beat up ones hand when firing.

You register your guns up in Michigan? Or do you mean you have to register them on your CCW so that it’s one of the firearms you can conceal carry?

It is my mind that it’s considered a “firearm” and it stays that way based on how it was called on the 4473 when purchased.

My Shockwave came with the Mossberg fore strap, which looked really cool. But, I wanted the Magpul forend, so the strap is no more. I thought about retrofitting it to the Magpul forend, but after adding the Talon Grips tape, Inforce light and SB pistol brace, I don't feel like it's necessary. The Talon Grips tape and the shape of the Magpul forend give a really positive grip. With the addition stability of the SB brace, I'm not worried about my hand slipping in front of the muzzle. When firing a Shockwave/Tac-14 from the hip, that is certainly more of a hazard. The other factor is that the Inforce light mounted on the forend acts as something of a handstop. I plan on adding the Suarez Int'l +1 Mag extension, which comes with a sling attachment plate. With the plate oriented at the bottom, the would be yet another barrier between the hand operating the pump and the muzzle of the gun. You'd have to try pretty hard to shoot off your own fingers.

My gun has the magpul forend. I talked to a NFA lawyer locally, Michigan measures a firearm in the shortest fireable condition, ATF measures extended. The Overall Length is 33". Folded it is 24". The NFA ruling is that the measurements is with the unit "EXTENDED", so this does not change the designation of your Tac-14. This makes me register it as a "pistol" in Michigan.

    My two cents.

I have a Remington TAC14 in the following configuration:

    - Bead blasted all steel parts and parkerized after the old Express finish was off.
    - Cerakote finish applied after the park.
    - Installed a Wilson +1 magazine extension, I removed the sling loop.
    - S&J Hardware solid follower.
    - S&J Hardware safety button.
    - Big Dot tritium front sight. Installs over the bead on the sight ramp. I used Loctite 380, aka “BlackMax” adhesive. 380 absorbs shock and sets in seconds, but it needs 24 hours to fully cure.
    - Used the polymer trigger housing as it is tougher than the metal one.
    - Installed all Police Magnum springs.
    - Apex extractor, not MIM.
    - Mesa Tactical side saddle.
    - Mesa Tactical stock adapter with a solid and adjustable pistol brace. Not S&B.
    - Streamlight forend. Best integrated shotgun forend light ever. Relatively low cost and most compact. Feels almost like the corncob forend on a Police Magnum.

One comment. If you install a pistol grip or vertical hand grip on a “pistol” it becomes an AOW weapon requiring a tax stamp.
