Its been a long time since I've been on this website but I am just so full of joy that I just had to share. my wife is a Bambi lover and was never around hunting and I had it in my life from birth, We had to work things through and this past easter we talked and she was fine with Brandon hunting with me and now I get to share a deer hunt with my 11yr old son this year. We live in TN and the youth hunt falls on Halloween this year and my son was very excited to pass up the candy to go on a weekend hunt!!!! ( he will still have a 7lb bag I will see to that) We have been through each step together (learning to shoot, first dove hunt, Hunter safety class, bow hunter safety class, etc) I had him put his safety harness on by himself last night ( its amazing how much they can learn we they want to so long as it doesn't have remember to clean your room in it he can remember stuff fine!!) I think that I'm more excited for him then he is. I told him last night that when you get your first deer that he will see me sobbing with an ear to ear smile so don't be alarmed. He will be using the same type of gun that I used to get my first deer. Its a savage 270 and he will be using the 50% less recoil rounds. they shoot good and it didn't kill him. There will be three generations involved in the hunt, my dad, me, and my son. I was hunting with my dad when I got my first deer!!!!! I could talk forever about this but I would just be rambling on and on. I AM A VERY HAPPY MAN!!!!

If you think your excited now, wait until he drops one. There are no words that will describe how you will feel. I have been blessed in being able to take my son last year who was 11 for his first deer hunt. He shot a monster, 260lbs. Very big for Oklahoma. This year I got to take him and my nephew deer hunting. It was my nephew's first time to hunt, he's 12. He shoots a 177lb 8 point buck and a131lb doe. My son shot a 125 7 pointer. Here are some pictures, the first is the buck my son took last year. Then my nephew with his buck and doe, and then my son with his buck. All weight was on the hoof before being field dressed. An old man once told me "if you hunt with them, you won't have to hunt for them" I have always remembered that. Good luck and and hang on for the ride of your life. Darn right taking your kids on their first deer hunt is the greatest thing. It doesn't matter if you even get a shot off. Just spending time in the woods is great. If he does drop a deer no matter what size the smile will not come off your face for weeks. Good luck, be safe, and have a ball.
