A guy in Texas asked me to get him a pheasant skin. Yesterday I skinned, a bird, and salted it down. I am looking for advise on how to treat the bird hide to keep it soft/flexable.

Is this for a full body mount?
Or does he want just a flat skin?

Anyway, powdered Borax, not salt, is the old taxidermy standby for preserving and moth & bug-proofing bird skins.

They are so thin after the Borax sucks all the mosture and fat out of them they won't be hard.

And they can be re-softened with water if need be to stretch them over a mount.

OK Borax, I had forgot all about Borax. RC he just wants it to lay flat, actually it is his wife that wants it and she will probably use it in some home decor fashion.
