So I want to mount a Lyman target front sight on my rifle:

I found the sight: http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/sights/series-17a.php

I found a barrel band that fits the gun: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrel-hardware/barrel-bands/barrel-band-prod7918.aspx

but I can't see how the front sight would fit the barrel band, as the sights use dovetails and there is no such mount on the barrel band. Yet I have seen someone do it using those sights and that barrel band, so what is the missing link? An adapter perhaps?

This is what I am trying to achieve, note the Lyman dovetail front sight affixed to a barrel band:

You have to buy the dovetail seperately and screw it to the barrel band. You have to find out which height dovetail you will need. There are three differant heights available, from .175 to .275.

Go back to the link and read it.

The first sentance in the item description says:
No gunsmithing required to attach this height-adjustable, machined steel base to AR-15 and other heavy-barrel, match rifles.
