Ok, I'm an old fart working in IT where I can never CCW or risk getting fired. For the last few decades I have just not carried. I have bought several cans of FOX pepper spray for use against dogs. My neighbor had a pack of three large German Shepherds that would occasional get loose and attack me in the yard. I didn't want to shoot them so I got the pepper spray and it was very effective. That and several fights in bars, etc. have been my only real uses of non-firearm weapons. My fighting time is way, way long past and I'm in no shape to do that!

That said, my new job requires me to work downtown and park at the local coliseum / auditorium. In addition I walk several blocks through the downtown district. It seems to me this is the prime circumstance to CCW, but I can't because I would be fired (and I'm not risking that, just got off an 8 month layoff which depleted my savings).

So I just ordered a Taser Bolt and a new canister of FOX pepper spray. What I am pondering here are tactics.

Carrying both the rain windbreaker and the lunch are the main problem as both together do not fit in the Versapack. The Versapack does have a strap to hold an umbrella on the bottom.

My initial plan is to carry both in accessible pockets in my backpack. This is not ideal since the pack may be on my back. I do have a Maxpedition Versapack with a gun pocket as well as a fanny pack (made for carrying a gun). Neither the Versapack nor the fanny pack, by themselves, can carry all I want (ie. taser, rain clothes, pepper spray and my lunch). An additional option is to also carry an umbrella and ditch the rain clothes.

So, does anyone have any ides as to how I could effectively deploy the taser and pepper spray ?

I'm open to carrying various combinations of the above or other options. Some obviously won't work like the Versapack AND the backpack at the same time. The Backpack and fanny pack would work but it might be pretty obvious. The Versapack and fanny pack might be good. Or maybe it's just better to carry everything in the backpack and practice a quick unshouldering ?

Any ideas ?

Carry the Taser in hand for your walk to and from or wear a light jacket all the time with it in your pocket.

^^^^^^^ Taser belongs in your hand, if there is any chance that you need it. Loose cargo or carpenter jeans hide a lot of goodies.
