Darn, I was going to send mine back because it has the regular old steel hammer. I wanted the high tech plastic one.... After not having much luck with his own pistol today, I asked my son to try my PT1911 out. At 15 yds, he put eight of my garden variety reloads through the same jagged hole. Then he changed the clip and did it a lot faster through the same hole. The look on his face when he ejected the magazine and hand the pistol back to me was priceless. Maybe the Pt1911 isn't the greatest gun in the world, but I sure am happy with mine.

I think that if you will go back and re-read GreenFurniture's post, he was talking with a bit of sarcasm and tongue in cheek. If you will note, he is with a gun dealer. I want to think that he was just trying to beat the BASHERS to the punch.......but mebbe not. I'm sure that he will correct me if I'm wrong. And possibly this has been pointed out before.....just too many posts to read them all!!!

I have the PT1911SS and so far, am extremely satisfied with it. It shoots where It's pointed, goes bang every time the trigger is pulled and is a great looking gun. I've only ran about 150 rounds of Brass Blazer through it so far and no hiccups......really don't know what more could be asked out of any gun. I'm certainly not against a fellow spending $3,000 on a gun......that's everyone's personal choice. However, I'll take my Taurus and put the rest of the money into ammo!!!

Can't believe the age of this thread!!!!!! :D

Happy Shootin,!

My younger cousin turned 21 and went out and bought a pt1911, with in a hundered rounds or so the extractor broke, he got it back over a month later, then sopmthing else broke, I have never liked taurus, but he loves that gun and has some taurus revolvers..

My PT1911 had a 'grungy' (?) feel to it as you would pull it. It turns out the inner side of the trigger bow was rubbing on the sides of the magazine.
I spread out the trigger bow a little bit and polished the inner walls of it. That helped a good bit, but it still rubbed a little bit.
As far as function, it performed ok.

my taurus pt1911SS is solid. absoutly no play in any of the parts. the machining on the barrel and barrel link does leave something to be desired as it's a bit rough, but for the price i paid, its been worth every penny. put just about 1000 rounds through it and its shoots straighter than i can aim.

i think it also is the most affordable 1911 you can get with a forged slide and frame.

i have heard good things about the Taurus, but it is not my first choice. You can find used Kimber pistols in the $600 range and even used Sig 220's between $550 - $650. Seems like a great deal on a 1911.
