the way they were designed

I just phoned the 800 phone number for Taurus and talked to a service rep. I told him about the odd mark I had noticed on the primers (the hit with a slide off to one side). He said that was normal for the OSS and other 24/7s. QUOTE: That is the way they were designed.
Also, there are no heavy springs available, unless I can find an aftermarket one for the long slide Mill Pro.
There is a backorder for 40,000 OSS models that should take till the end of the year to clear up. I would like to assume a large part of that 40K is gun stores and dealers.

24/7oss

I shot one of these this past weekend.I was very impressed with the accuracy and reliability of it .It fed and fired wc,hp and of course 230 ball ammo.I liked the fit and finish and will buy one as soon as I can afford it.My buddy that had it got it at a gun show and is pleased with it.I am impressed with the different designs and styles Taurus is making they are okay in my book.

Read that was normal for several striker models...like the Glock and Taurus.

I'd love to get one of the longslide/OSS 9mm barrels, thread it, and stick it in my 24/7 PRO. Then, I could attatch a can!

How cool would a suppressed 24/7 be!

The OSS uses the same mags as the other full size 24/7s. I bought an extra for mine Friday and it worked just fine.

Any new field reports on these things? I'm wondering about reliability/longevity. Are there any quirks that anyone has found?

Got to the range today and shot my new Taurus OSS 45 head to head with my XD45 Tactical. Its a 5" to 5" comparison, although I'd added a fiber optic front to the XD45.

I find the OSS a big improvement over the 24/7 (which I have in 9mm) and very much like the ambi safety.

I was shooting steel plates as usual so no target pictures, but despite much more practice with the XD, the OSS was knocking them down maybe a tad better. The OSS gives up one round (12+1 vs. 13+1) but is noticeably slimmer in the grip, if the XD feels a bit large to your hand, definitely give the OSS a look.

The XD was my favorite plastic pistol until I got the M&P 40, I actually liked the 24/7 trigger better in dry-fire than the XD trigger, but I do much better shooting the XD9 (as I said XD was my favorite plastic pistol) although the 1" shorter sight radius of the 24/7 didn't help.

Anyways, I think the new OSS is a winner and could push the XD to third place on my plastic gun preference list, Glocks are distant last place for me. Of course Springfield has answered with the new XDm 40 with supposedly improved trigger too, but this takes new mags too, and is priced higher.

At the most recent gun show XD45(~$475) and OSS (~$440) had the OSS about $35 cheaper but most XD packages come with three mags while the OSS has only two and the $35 for a third 24/7 magazine makes the OSS about the same price.

The new XDm40 was $550 best price, with most asking over $600 compared to about $475 for the XD45 and ~$420 for the XD40

Can't say much about the OSS durability, as with only three mags range sessions with it tend to be on the short side for me, as its way to hot to stand there stuffing magazines, but no issues in the first 100+ rounds of Wolf ball and my hard cast lead reloads in its first two outings.

--wally.

Edit, mine has a black frame and slide, At the last gun show I saw a black frame and stainless slide if you like the two tone look. But with the orientation of our plate racks and the time of day I can shoot, all black slides have proven best for me for using iron sights.

OSS trigger problem

7-28-08
I took my Taurus OSS out to the woods for another range session. I had a bunch of Georgia Arms 185 gr reloads and had a lot of “fail to feed” so I had to pull back the slide slightly and release to feed the round. My host has found an OSS since my last visit and shooting session. We compared guns. Where mine had a noticeable “edge” on the feeding ramp, it looked like his had been polished and rounded slightly. His OSS fed and fired flawlessly the ammo mine had jammed on every other round. I could take care of that problem myself. The other problem I noticed could be more fatal. I was practicing double action first shots. One big reason I bought the OSS was so I could carry a loaded chamber with the striker down, and use double action for the first shot. I noticed once in a while that normal trigger pressure did not fire the weapon. In fact I had to squeeze the Hell out of the trigger, pulling it way off target, sometimes not getting it to fire at all pulling as hard as I could. Not a good way to stay alive in a gun fight.
I emptied the gun, pulled the magazine and started dry firing in double action. It took between 20 and 40 pulls for the problem to reoccur. Used a variety of ammo, same thing.
My buddy tried and experienced the same thing, not just my hand or grip. After I came home and cleaned the gun as well as I can, the same thing happens. Sometimes it just takes a little extra effort to make it fire, sometimes I have to use both hands and two fingers to make the striker fall.
My buddys OSS does not seem to have either problem.
Definitely time to use that Taurus lifetime guarantee.
At least I have extra carry guns that won’t get me killed.

Sounds like you have a tolerance issue with yours so that the trigger is hitting the end of travel just around the same time as the striker release. I've read about a similar problem before with Millenium Pros which employ the same basic striker design. Can't recall the exact problem...might have been play in the striker assembly itself. Definitely get it back to Taurus and let us know how long it takes to get fixed. Taurus is all over the map with service. On the Taurus forum there is one guy waiting for his gun back for over 5 months for a recoil spring replacement.

I like the trigger release on my PT111. It is pretty crisp...stiff for a SA...closer to the effort in the M&P...about perfect for a defensive weapon.

And you shot it like that? It seems like a very bad idea to shoot an obviously broken gun.

Jam jam ftf!!!

I bought one of the first oss to hit the market here in COLO.
I was so excited to finally get one and go shoot the heck out of it!! What a disappointment!! It would either not fully seat the slide or fail to extract! And this was just with reg 230gr. ball ammo!! Also the mag release would not drop even a full mag after 200 rnds!! So off it went to Taurus and about 6 weeks later I got it back. I still have not had a chance to test it again But it's on my list!! TOO many guns too little time!! I can tell you one thing It will NEVER replace my Glocks for CCW or any other life or death situation!!! Looks like another gun safe QUEEN!!

Ident 3rd gen?

New user here. Does anyone know what the difference is in the "3rd generation" OSS models and the originals (never seen anything on Gen 2...)? Also, how would you tell the difference? S/N or extra/modified controls, etc?

I just bought a Taurus OSS 45acp last weekend and the gun functions perfectly no feeding problems,FTF's,but at 25ft it shoots 6 inches low. I have taken it apart several times to see if I can tell if something isn't right but it looks OK. I have never had a new gun that shoots so far off point of aim.
I really don't want to send it back to Taurus, and would rather just put a different rear sight (adjustable) so I could get it to shoot point of aim.
Anyone have suggestions? THB

Both sights are dovetailed (as I look at the pictures on Taurus' website). Tell Taurus of your problem and maybe they'll send you (free of charge) a new front and/or rear to correct the problem.

Whoa, there's been 3 generations of this thing already? Why? What was changed?
