Taurus .38 special...good gun?

I got a Taurus 85 Titanium. The cylinder would not turn correctly. So off to Taurus she went. 6 weeks later she came back in working order at no charge. I have had no other problems after 500 rounds. For the price, they are great, but I just bought a 638 Smith yesterday, and really like it. If money is factor get the Taurus. If not, get a smith, but wait and get a non-lock version when you can find one.

What exactly are you saying with this comment

NOBODY will continue to buy from such a company.

If you are talking about me, I quit buying from the company, but not before I had many guns fail. As far as saying Ruger or Smith are bad, I would not say that, because it is not true. Why defend Taurus when they sell junk and so many others sell quality products for reasonable prices like Smith, Ruger, Browning, Sig, Glock, H&K, Beretta etc.

I only report what I know first-hand and if you read all my posts, you will see that I am fair and unbiased in reporting problematic guns and service as well as good products and service. I tell it like it is. That is what separates me from the fanboys. If I promote a gun, it is because it has performed well, and if I report that a gun is poor quality, rest assured it is. Perhaps because you own something, you feel you must defend it to justify your ownership. That attitude dioes not serve others on the boards though.

Simply put, there is a certain dis-trust of the opinions of someone who buys so many bad guns over a period of years. If we want to be truthful, it's also statistically impossible to do what has been claimed to have happened.

The second paragraph defines those who defend a gun because of their experiences , right? How does a different experience make someone a fanboy is it's positive, but a rational, wise, poster is it's not?

Perhaps, sir, it's the fact that your experiences causes you to overstate your case. This, too, does not serve others on this Board. I have 12 Taurus handguns, bought over 20+ years, with thousands of rounds through them, without a problem. You state that in 100% of your multiple purchases the guns failed. Somewhere along the line, the truth sits.

Taurus guns are very poorly made with little if any customer support. Their lifetime service means it will take you a lifetime to get service, if you are lucky. I have had several and they were all lemons, from the .22s to .38 snubs and .357s, to .44s, 9s .40s and .45s. I have had them all and they were all junk. I tried to get some fixed, but gave up after several months of waiting and going back and forth and around and around with them.

This is the initial post. It's long on hyperbole, and short on facts, which still aren't in evidence.

S&W is having a promo. check this out, it puts a J frames right in the price range of a Taurus.

I got my 442 for $389.00

I bought an 85 Stainless 22 years ago for the wife... it has been a dream! ...But you'd think with all of the doom sayers, that amongst all of the lemons they sent me the only Lemon Meringue pie! Taurus is manufacturing on S&W's equipment that they purchased.
