I had been wanting one for a while and just picked one up at last weekend's gunshow here. I got the 3" barrel version that can chamber 2.5" .410 shotgun shells. Havn't shot it yet but am looking forward to it. This will be my snake gun to take hiking as well as an anti-carjacking gun.

I checked the Taurus website and they are apparently coming out with two new models this year - an alloy frame lightweight model and a 3" chamber version for .410 magnum shells. I may have to get another!

The versatility just seems awesome - loaded with 5 shotshells in anything from no.4 to no.8 shot for snakes - loaded with no.4 or 000 buckshot for self-defense/anti-carjacking (or .45 LC). The 2.5" .410 shells hold three .36 cal 000 balls in a row while the 3.0" shells hold five - nasty capability with one shot sending out the equavilent of three to five shots from a .380 ACP.

I've seen these in the magazines and they seem pretty neat!
I wonder if you could put .454 casull through one...
 
Good buy, there.

I have the 6 inch version and love it. It currently holds double duty as my snake gun for when I'm in the woods and as my night-stand gun, loaded with one round of #4 and four rounds of .45. As far as shooting hot loads in this gun, I would never attempt it. When the thickness of the chambers are compared to, say, a Ruger, its brutally obvious that this gun wasn't made with those loads in mind.

Enjoy the gun, it is definitely one of my favorites to shoot out in the country, and after I feel that I've got enough practice with the thing, I plan on trying my hand at some hogs with it.
 
I have the (relatively) rare 4" stainless version and I love mine too. What really amazed me was the accuracy with factory .45 LC loads. It shot close to pnt. of aim at 25 yds. and grouped better than my S&W .45 LC did.

I've handloaded some "medium-hot" .45 LC rounds with 250 gr. JHP bullets and they have shot well, too. I think the gun is plenty strong for most handloads as long as you stay away from the "Ruger or Contender" strength loads.

For snake loads, I recommend using #9 shot for snake loads because the patterns are just too thin with the larger shot. I've handloaded some 2.5" shells with #12 shot and those pattern even better.

My only complaint is that it's relatively heavy. That alloy version sounds pretty cool!!

I was looking at these as well. Do you have a holster for yours? If you do where'd you get it?
 
Kelly- I thought about that .454 thing also. It is obviously a VERY VERY bad idea (especially since I rather like the current configuration of my hands, digits, and eyes!!!), but nobody has given me a good answer on whether or not it would be physically possible to chamber the round.
 
No they won't fit. There is a lip in the cylinder sized for 45 Colt brass. The chamber past the lip is .454 in diameter but the brass on 45 cal cartridges is larger than this. So the 454 Casull and 460 S&W brass are too long and won't chamber. The 444 Marlin brass chambers (brass is .451 diameter and bullet is .429), and I wouldn't shoot that. But the 444 brass is a good base for handloading your own shotshells if you don't want to mess with plastic 410 hulls.

This gun also will not chamber the russian steel/brass 410 shells. They are both too long (2.75") and too fat.

These things have become widly popular as of late, as I can't see too
keep these "Judges" in stock, in any barrel length~! :uhoh: Our shop
is centerally located among some of the finest fishing found in the SE
part of these United States; so people are buying these revolvers too
keep snakes out of their boat. Others, prefer the Bond Arms Derringer.
 
Cajun47, Mine cost me $415 at a gun show (stainless). I researched beforehand online and you can usually find the stainless versions in the low $400's and the blued versions in the upper $300's. I havn't seen any of the alloy frame ones listed anywhere yet.

Noble, The holster was a tough one - almost nothing fit. I found .500 S&W holster that fit well but didn't like the belt slots which only allowed right side/right hand draw (I wanted cross draw capability for car use). I got a Uncle Mikes 7002-0 size 2 for $19.50 and it fits perfectly (the holster is soft and made for 3-4" med/lg double action revolvers). Got it at Sportsman's Warehouse.
 
What's the preferred barrel length on these things? I've seen all three lengths here locally and I'm almost tempted. OK, I am tempted...

Thanks a bunch. Kinda hard for me to buy a gun that I can't buy a holster for. Anyway, I just ordered my judge-stainless-from Bud's Guns outta KY. Fixin to grab a holster from Mike's. Oughta be a great snake gun while I'm at work.
 
Jorg, I am partial to the 3" or 4" version - the concept is for close in use and adding the exta length seems to defeat some of the purpose of a decent spread at close range. I guess the longer version would be ok for ranch use only with a fairly large holster.
