If anyone has firsthand knowledge of the taurus 800's (particularly the 845) I would appreciate your feedback. I've owned 3 taurus handguns in the past and had trouble with all of them right out of the box, but I remain optimistic about their products as so many people I shoot with have had no problems and swear by them.

Had one, sold it in short order. I did not like how the sights were setup and refused to put $40-50 extra into the gun to fix it. Mine did function w/o malfunction for the ~250rd I shot through it. I also was not impressed with the limited selection of aftermarket items available for it at that time (2009).

Unless you find a smokin deal on one I recommend you pass.

    Past 845 owner here.

Had failure to return to battery issues from day one sent it back three times never did fix the issue. after the thrid trip back it started to feed reliably however shortly after this the ambi slide release broke and it went back a fourth time for repair. after being returned to me the failure to return to battery issue was back. I sold it at a loss back to the store I bought it from.

Other problems included mag dropping free during the firing cycle, slide locking open during firing cycle and mags not dropping free when empty.

In the interest of full disclosure I own a PT111 pro that has not had any issues.

still have my 845 as a house gun.
the price was right and the double stack grip fit my hand
it has been solid and reliable but i would consider a
trade if something interesting came along .

If you do check Taurusarmed.net make sure you look in the complaints section as that is where every thread with even a hint of negativity gets moved to.

Until a few months ago that section was limited to members only and not viewable to everyone.
If you view just the pt92 and other pistols section or run a search for PT845 those threads will with complaints will not show.
    Just a heads up.

We picked up a PT840 about 6 months Ago and it runs just fine for us. I've shot JHP and FMJ and it has functioned just fine. It's a full size pistol, ambi friendly with a decocker.

My only complaint is the mag rattles a bit in the handle when walking. I had it on my side in cat country when elk hunting.

We got the pistol for $300 on a private sale and its well worth it. I like it better than I did the 24/7 series Taurus pistols.

Wasn't sure if I should open a new thread, but this one looks relevant. I've heard rumors that the 800 Series is being discontinued, and the PT-845 in particular has been difficult to find, until I finally saw it in stock at Hinterland Outfitters (priced noticeably lower than the sellers on Gunbroker). Would like to get any information I can as far as whether this product line is actually being discontinued, and should I be concerned about the Taurus recall before making a purchase. Thank you.
