Taurus mod 85

Original box is in Spanish/Portugese and has no model#, Circa 1968; Taurus has no info after S&W acquisition. Insides look to be S&W with firing pin attch to hammer, but there is a hammer block. Striations on fluted cylinder. Firearms disassy book does not show this gun as is, but it has "innards" of two different guns. I don't think it's a bastard child, just can't find a 100%.

If I were to buy speed loader, what should it be?

FWIW, I'm pretty sure the Model 80 is a precursor of the Model 82 and is thus k-framed size.

The Model 85 is definitely the size of a j-frame.

My Old Model 66 that has a hammer block instead of transfer bar has a very nice trigger. :)

That alone points to it being old.

Model 85, 5 shot .38, buy one for a 5 shot S&W J-frame or Ruger SP101.

If it's a 6 shot .38, go with one for a 6 shot S&W K frame, a model 10 or 19.

Most holsters made for the Taurus model 85 will also fit the 856. I know my kydex holster I bought for the 85 fits the 856 after slightly adjusting the screws.

The Model 85, 856, 94, 941, 942, and 327 all use the same frame. The main difference between the 85 and 856 is the diameter of the cylinder. IIRC it is only about an 1/8" or slightly less difference.

Yes, and if for some bizarre and unexpected reason neither of those work, you can always pick up a couple of speed strips.

Model 856 ( 6 shot 38 ) is close to Colt “D” size a Charter Bulldog holster should work.
Models 85 ,605 , 905 is closer to a J frame 5 shot .. but is a bit larger and has a barrel shroud,
Model 82 is a 6 shot 38spl close to K frame
I suggest to get a 65 over a 82 , same size and weight but 357
Model 66 is close to a L frame 7 shot 357

@Buckeye63 For some reason I never paid attention to Model 85's always having the barrel shroud. TY for mentioning it.

The Model 66 is a Model 65 with adjustable sights.
