Does anyone have any experience with the Taurus 945 or 908? My main concern is with long term durability.

If long term durability is indeed your main concern, you may want to consider a Ruger SP101 or GP100revolver or Smith and Wesson .38 special... say, a model 10 or 15.

Taurus quality is hit and miss... I have one and it always goes bang but I've had some problems with the sights, etc. Some will tell you there's nothing wrong with them and some will opine that you should run away, fast. They do have a lifetime (of the gun) warranty. Some report that service is very slow.

I have a pt945 that I bought used for $300......I love it.For me it's the perfect .45.I could never get the hang of 1911's,but I like cocked and locked. The 945 is like a cross between a sig and a 1911 and a Beretta.Mine has fed everything I put in it,and is very accurate.I made sharp shooter in idpa my 1st time out w/ it.One thing I did have done was to take the beavertail off(just my preference)..I would recommend one.

I had a PT945 that, quite frankly, I liked better than the SIG P220 I owned at the same time. I liked the variety of carry options (cocked and locked, uncocked and locked, uncocked and unlocked) and it shot as well as the SIG. At the time, I was shooting a lot more double action revolvers (in .38 Special, of all things) and ended up moving both guns---sold the SIG first, though. I only ran about 1500 rounds through the Taurus, but it ran fine. (A mix of hardball and 200 grain SWCs.)

If you do a search on Taurus you will find that they have mixed reviews on quality. If you get a good one they are great!
One thing that does not seem to be in dispute is that their customer service is very, very bad.

I currently own a PT-92, and have owned several other Taurus pistols. I only ever had to call for service on one of them, and Taurus handled it pretty well, in my opinion that is.

The others, that I sold, I sold when I needed the money, otherwise, I'd still have them. The PT-92, I've had since 1992, and I'll hang on to that, until I die, or until the government outlaws them, then I'll bury it. ;)

I don't have a question about overall Taurus quality. I had a model 82 .38 special and a model 65 .357. I bought them new about 20 years ago. The model 82 fired over 7000 rounds and the model 65 fired over 4000 rounds when I sold them. I can't comment on Taurus customer service, because they never had any problems. I have no experience with their semi-autos.

I do have Taurus pistols. Though they be the PT111 Mil/pro and the PT22.
Both work well and have had no problems.

as far as customer service..the 3 mags that I got w/ the pt945 were cracked on the butt plates. They worked fine, but it bothered me.I called Taurus and asked to have them send new butt plates, and the woman said to send the mags back in.....the replced them(the mags not just the butt plates)w/ 3 new ones in about 2 weeks.I was happy.I did have to pay to ship them there, but that's it.
Smith and Weeson has better customer service for sure, but Taurus wasn't bad for me.
