Tax On Ammo Over the Net?

I wa looking at some amo from Dan's sporting good over the internet. I calculated the shipping and, at the bottom, it said '6% Sales Tax for Orders to Pennsylvania'... or something along those lines.

Now, I live in Tennessee. Does this mean I have to pay no tax at all and just the regular tax that I would normally have to pay if I bought it in a store?

If I don't have to pay tax I think I've found a decent deal.

they tax that because they ( the seller) are in PA and if you the buyer were, then its an intra state sale

if your in Tennessee you will not pay sales tax if you order from out of state... are you technicaly getting it tax free? no i dont think so. im no tax agent but your supposed to claim these types of things.

No tax charged by the seller if they are in a different state from you and don't have any operations in your state.

However, most if not all states with a sales tax also have a use tax, which is levied on you making purchases from out of state. It's normally at the same rate as the sales tax. If you're a good taxpayer you will report the purchase and pay use tax on it.

In my state this is done on your annual income tax return. Everyone ignored it for many years when it was a separate return, then they made it a line item on the income tax return and now you're either paying it or making a false statement when you sign the return. Fun, eh?

If your purchase via the internet or mail and the item is delivered to an out of state address relative to the seller, no state sales taxes are assessed on the sale by the seller.

If you went to the store and purchased in person, you would pay sales tax.

You technically are responsible to pay the Tennessee sales tax personally.

Eventually all internet and catalog sales will be taxed at the state rate of the delivery address. States have been struggling overall with revenue, and once they figure out a way to do it practically, it will happen. The problem is it puts a terrible burden on the seller with a mail order business.
