So, how much MORE do they need to become like the SS before people start rebelling?

    -------------------------------------------
    (Jacksonville, Florida)

Thu Apr 6, 5:29 PM ET

A local school employee said a rough run-in with a couple of Homeland Security officers has left him with a strong sense of insecurity.

Leander Pickett, a teacher's assistant at Englewood Elementary, said he was manhandled and handcuffed by two plain clothed Homeland Security officers in front of the school Tuesday for no reason at all.

"I would like to treat people the way I would want to be treated, and yesterday I wasn't treated that way," Pickett said.

Pickett has been working at Englewood for two years, and his principal and colleagues told Channel 4 they have never met a harder worker or nicer guy.

"He's well loved by everyone because he's willing to do anything to help children," said the Englewood Elementary Principal Gail Brinson.

However, Tuesday afternoon Pickett's niceness turned to anger, disappointment, and betrayal when, as Pickett was directing bus traffic, he said he was handcuffed and roughed up and humiliated by the very people that were supposed to protect him.

"I walked up to him and said, 'Sir, you need to move.' That's when he said 'I'm a police officer. I'm with Homeland Security ... I'll move it when I want to.' That's when he started grabbing me on my arm," Pickett said.

However, Homeland Security tells a different story.

The department said the only reason the officers were at the school was because they pulled over to look at a map.

The department also said it's looking into what happened, and that Pickett's version is wrong. It claims he was antagonizing the officers.

Several people were outside of the school, watching the incident take place, and those witnesses agree with Pickett's story.

"Mr. Pickett asked the guy blocking the bus loading zone to move, and the guy told him he would move his car when he got ready to move it," said Englewood coach Alton Jackson.

"At that point I intervened and I went up to the gentleman and said, 'Mr. Pickett is an employee here,' and they said that didn't matter," said Englewood media specialist, Terri Dreisonstok.

"'We're with Homeland Security,' and on and on they went, and pretty soon, before you know it, he's handcuffed and slammed against a car," Brinson said. "All the children are watching, they're all upset."

After about 30 minutes, the men released Pickett.

"The part that really upsets me is all these students were watching, and that and it isn't good," Jackson said.

Pickett said he plans to sue.

"You now you hear these stories everyday and say, 'This will never happen to me,' but yesterday it happened to me," Pickett said.

"If this is Homeland Security, I think we ought to be a little afraid," Brinson said.

The central office of Homeland Security contacted Channel 4 about the incident and stated that it considers all allegations seriously and the matter has been referred to a neutral investigative entity.

My favorite part of the story is how the DHS is "looking into it" but yet already they have ascertained (no doubt by use of The Force which is part of their Jedi training) that the teacher is wrong. :D

Just another day fighting the government.:banghead:

Does anything else need to be said?:barf:

And what 'neutral investigative agency' is doing the investigation?

    BATFE?
    TSA?
    FBI?

Some other bastion of truth and integrity?

    Hmmmmmmm?

Nothing to see here. Move along...

Just another straw on the camels back. Don't worry though, the old girl is well broken to her harness. She'll complain a bit, but no real fuss will ensue.

What freedom are they supposedly protecting? I wasnt aware we had any left.

I for one am glad we have men protecting the Fatherland, and welcome our new authority-abusing overlords.

So, they couldn't have moved thier car out of the bus lane and then looked at their map?

Just another bunch of JBTs who believe that their badge allows them to abuse the very people for whom they work.

Didn't know that "Homeland Security" had any troops of their own.
What fine agency did these critters really work for?

In answer to Manedwolf's question, whole lot worse. Most of them sheeps is just now getting to like KoolAid. Last time the nation dealt with folks like that, less than 5% had anything at all to do with it and only about 35% supported it.

I think the teacher who was handcuffed said it just fine, although some of the posts here are both more entertaining and poignant.

Good, it's about time they had a civics lesson too. They actually learned something useful about government while "in school". Must be the first time in 30 years that's hapened.

    3 Oldies but goodies...

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is
able to think things out...without regard to the prevailing
superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the
conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest,
    insane, intolerable.
    --H. L. Mencken

    ==========================================================

Once a government is committed to the principle of
silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go,
and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures,
until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and
creates a country where everyone lives in fear
    --Harry S. Truman

If you are a terror to many, then beware of many.

Simple answer to the identification process- Homeland Security Forces should all be issued brown shirts to wear- Then we will know not to question them even if one decides to pat your wife or daughter on the derrier in the guise of a frisk- It's always been the same in any country when "little" people gain some governmental authority; they turn into thugs- As far as mincing your words for fear that the thought police may be watching, if they don't already have you down on their list then they're not doing their job- I've said it before about other topics and I'll say it again here- It's getting close, Lock and Load!-

Sue the morons. Enough of this Attitudinal B.S. from a bunch of low-life hacks :barf:

Maybe if everyone who gets treated in this shabby manner sues and it finally costs them enough money, the Gov't will do something about it.

Until that entity is a review board made up of everyday citizens, it will be white washed and thrown out.

When was the last time any government agency admitted to abusing the power granted to them by us?

I don't want to see them get sued. Why?

Because they will pay off the guy with my hard earned money that is extorted from me each year.

Yes, it is good. People need to be outraged in order to catalyze change. There will be no outrage until the abuse strikes america square in the suburbs.
    Excellent.

I think it's a little extreme to compare any American government agency with the GESTAPO's of Germany in the early 40's. If this scenario played out in 1940something Germany, the man would have been shot and the "media" teacher would have been taken away for torture. Then shot. It's quite different to be harrassed a little then to be killed, or worse. That's all I'm saying.
