From the Salt Lake Tribune -

"The Jordan School Board gave preliminary approval Tuesday to a policy outlining the conditions under which district employees may carry a concealed weapon on school property with a valid permit.

Employees must keep the weapon concealed and employees who legally use a concealed weapon on school grounds do so in their individual capacities, not their scope of employment.

The Jordan board will formally vote on the policy at its July 16 meeting.

Both policies are in response to a law passed during the 2003 legislative session, Senate Bill 108, that harmonized conflicting parts of state code. One section allowed concealed weapons on school campuses, while another prohibited it".

Not like anyone will have strong opinions on this topic... But remember when terrorists used to take over Israeli schools & schools buses, shooting & blowing them up? This is one way their Gov't stopped that nonsense. The French and Germans also used a no nonsense approach to stop thugs from doing that kind of thing.

EDITED: FWIW, Folks sometimes don't realize how often "adults" from off campus can be a genuine threat to schools. Not to downplay the threat posed by some "kids"; there is a reason our local "Juvenile Hall" is bursting to the seams with violent & narcotics offenders.

I've always thought that a few faculty/staff/administrators at every school should be certified reserve LEO's with full arrest powers and that every teacher willing to be armed should be armed.

I would highly reccommend that armed teachers become skilled in moving up the force continuum. I mean, why shoot little Johnny when pepper spray and a baton can do the trick.

Yeah, but they're not really making it easy. So far several school districts are working out their "policies" so they can claim that they comply with the new state law. But, the way they're doing it is still pretty "anti". For example, they all make a very big deal out of stating that if a teacher uses their firearm while on campus the school district won' t back them up in the resulting lawsuit(s). Pretty much making a show of saying "use your legally carried firearm and you're on your own", like that is a real deterrant to folks who carry. And it might be to some teachers.

Also, stating that they would have to have their CCW on their person at all times (can't lock it in a drawer) otherwise it's grounds for dismissal. They are trying to minimally comply with the law while making it darn hard to actually carry as a teacher.

Don't be fooled, the sheeple are still in control of our public schools and are NOT happy about this law.

There was almost a 'Columbine' in Pearl, Mississippi several years ago. However, before it got very far along, a prin (or assist prin?) went to his car, got his gun and stopped the shootings in their tracks. I do not believe he had to fire his gun at all.

The bliss-ninnies and liberal media DO NOT report such cases nearly to the degree that should be done. Facts, you see, DO NOT fit their agenda!

Joel Myrick, an assistant principal who went to his truck, got his pistol and held Luke Woodham under gunpoint until authorities arrived. Several anti-gun groups wanted him prosecuted for violating the "Gun Free School Zone Act," despite the fact that he stopped Woodham from harming anyone else. Law enforcement said his vehicle was an extension of his home though, so it didn't count; he was never charged.

He got lots of hate mail, some of it threatening: "What kind of person would point a loaded gun at one of his students?"

A kind of person who sees someone shooting children with a .30-30, I guess. You know, a sane person.
