Went hunting in 3 different blinds in rice country over last 4 days, I shot a total of 9 Bluewings . the limit is 6 per day. It was very foggy and hot for 3 of the days. Best day was Monday when 3 of us shot 15 in the fog. Worst teal season in years here. Teal are getting in very big flocks and staying put. Places that are usually very good are nearly vacant of birds. I suppose the average is 1-2 birds per hunter. although some blinds limit out every day!!

Anyone else do any good teal hunting//

Well, the river's down at the delta, but I'm not going to bother, anyway, with any more bird hunting until I get my cataract surgery in 3 weeks. :D I can't see the danged things until it's almost too late. Every day is foggy with these screwed up eyes.

I don't know, though, just sorta don't do teal anymore. I don't wanna hunt without Molly, my dog, and there's just too danged many gators out down there during teal season. Besides, I ain't in to sweatin' in waders. :D

I usually get male teal in my pond starting around the 15th of August. None this year that I've seen. They just stay a day at the most before heading out to south Florida where they stay all winter.
We can kill 2 wood ducks the first 5 days of the 9 day season but I only got one so far. The water was very low until Irma hit and now it's flooded in most places with lots of downed trees.

We have some ponds in the woods very close to my house that outfitters have leased. They put 4-6 guys on a pond and one teal can fly in and it sounds like the assault on Omaha Beach. So, it's kinda hard to judge how well they're doing, but I can tell ya this, opening day this year I was in my box blind hunting hogs when shooting time came and, MAN, they're keeping the shot shell manufactures in business, can tell ya that!

Duck hunts are pretty affordable here and I'd book a hunt if I could find a couple of guys that wanted to go, too, but it's hard to find someone that's as dedicated to duck hunting as I am. :D My buddy in Waco comes down and we do one or two goose hunts every year, but he's more into geese. The bigger the target, the better he likes it. He has doves if he wants to miss birds.

I've been invited to go up to Waco and hunt an old gravel pit turned "lake" this fall. I hear it's full of ducks in the duck season. These guys don't call, don't have decoys don't think, and don't have a dog, so I got invited. :D

The dog can be a real asset and not just to retrieve. I have had wood ducks on my pond that stayed on the opposite side more than 50 yards away. I tell my dog, "Easy," and shes paces the bank I'm on. The ducks are curious about the dog and swim into range. Then I can flush them and get a couple. My dog then retrieves them.
I was surprised that it worked but it does.

I opted to not teal hunt today, My son went with 3 buddies and they saw a flock of 4 and killed them all and that was it. I went crabbing and got my limit so I think I won the best protein of the day!

I rode my ATV out back to change my game camera card. Then, I rode to the back fence where the tank is and there were 3 teal on the tank that flushed after I shut the engine off. I did have my .410 Contender and they were in range, but teal season ended here last weekend methinks. At any rate, I was loaded with 6 shot lead. :D They weren't 20 yards, though, when they flushed. I've taken doves with that Contender further than that. :D But, I wasn't exactly ready for 'em, both hands on the bars. LOL

This is a good sign, though. Maybe we'll have more birds down here this year. Hasn't been a duck on that tank in 2 years. Been really poor around here. Two years back I joined that hunting club for 1500 bucks. I hunted a dozen times and shot 5 birds. Yeah, each bird cost me 300 bucks. Should have just bought chicken.

They blamed that year on all the rain up north holding the ducks from migrating down. That's not an excuse this year. We got all the rain. It rained an inch north of Waco when it rained 17" here during Harvey.
