OK... so i really need to tear down (field strip) and clean my Garand, but i can't figure out how to get the bugger apart! Seems simple enough, turn rifle upside down pull triger guard up and tword muzzle... well i stoped when my finger started hurting for fear of breaking the gun; so i figured i'd ask the experts and see if i'm overlooking something... Any ideas? Thanks in advance,
    Nick

I'm assuming that you are pulling the trigger guard a little to the rear (towards the buttstock) then up (as it lays upside down) then tilting toward the muzzle?

If so, try using a short piece of dowel inside the triggerguard to give you some leverage.

If this all doesn't make sense, go to the excellent step by step instructions on the CMP site.
